Got my free Octopus CD today courtesy of Kracfive (thanks, kids) and to echo what Lance said already, it's damn good. I'm not in much of a review mood right now, but this is the first Kracfive I've heard and if it's all this good then I'll definitely be getting more. I guess the promotional budget is doing its job in this case. :) Snazzy packaging too, except mine came in a seriously cracked jewel case - easily replaceable, though. Fourteen numbers listed on the back, twelve song names, and twelve tracks on the CD itself. Printing mistake or intentional confusion? Who knows. Everyone go buy some Kracfive right now. superfuzz@home.com

Got mine in the mail yesterday. I've had a bit to listen to lately, so I haven't really given this the time it deserves yet - but I REALLY have to say that Noah has expanded his vision a great deal from those early Pacman tapes. I've heard this described as "downtempo", but I think that's a bit of a misnomer. It sports a bit of a downtempo influence, but it has too much of a playful/experimental streak running through it to fit neatly into that slot. This is fun and interesting to hear and will be a while in my player. Really nice and highly recommended. Unexpected lush feel every now and then (next to a crunch here and there) and some very lovely melodies bubbling through this. From his earlier work, this isn't what I might have expected. Sometimes it's like a soporific Matmos doing funky analogue synths. Did I "win" this in one of those "1st X # of people responding in Y time gets one " deals? Yup. But I'm not returning a favor (i.e.buttkissing) here. I'm saying it because it's true. This is NOT your average homespun jingle disc. I'm crossposting because it belongs on both lists in the same way BoC might. Great packaging, too. Buy some, try some. jeff -- jeff "10,000 people all screaming the same thing at the same time are wrong, even if they're right." dancing/about/architecture "...with wandering steps and slow..."
