anyone have any info on pulse programming? have a cd on aesthetics called "prelim." i'd forgotten all about this disc -- don't think i ever listened to it before -- but it's quite lovely floating ambiance, a la eno's music for airports perhaps. apparently a project of one kriske & hellner. thanks p

yes think i posted to this list about them a few weeks ago. i've played several Pulse Programming tracks on the Inaudible show over the past few months. anyway, they are a chicago experimental duo. prelim is their first official release. the style on prelim sounds like a mix of eno, cathars, novisad, tom steinle, ryoji ikeda, and oval. highly recommended. btw: i think pulse programming is in the process of organizing a small tour. if you think that you would be interested in booking these guys the contact me in private and i will fwd you the appropriate contact infos. -->-Lance--- mclance@nacs.net lance@inaudible.com p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states

Forgot to add that Marc Hellner, ½ of Pulse Programming, is also a member of the band L'altra. I want to make one correction to my previous post. I said pulse programming were a chicago-based duo. Well when Prelim was recorded both Marc Hellner and Joel Kriske both lived in Portland, Oregon. Since then Marc Hellner has relocated to Chicago and Joel Kriske will be moving to the midwest sometime this fall. Regardless of location, Pulse Programming's Prelim is an excellent spacious ambient release. -->-Lance--- mclance@nacs.net lance@inaudible.com p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states

I just spoke with Joel Kriske in a record shop last night... he says we will soon be able to get copies of the Pulse Programming on vinyl. Mark Hellner lives in Chicago. Joel is moving out of Portland soon and Mark is playing in some Chi-area band on the side I think... There is a Pulse Programming track on OMCO's comp (www.outwardmusic.com) Solenoid

yep, i certainly have to second lance's recommendation. funny, because i'm sure i popped the disc in when it first arrived & i didn't think i liked it... but on reflection, it's really, really nice. i especially like the fact that it doesn't wear its production on its sleeve -- a subtle combination of digital and analog (or "organic" as some will insist upon calling it), it's neither all glitch nor pure guitar-drone, though there are certainly elements of both. lovely, spacious bell-tone shimmer. it's funny, because it's been a long time since i heard any ambient i really, really liked. i wish there were more stuff out there like this (and parmentier), that managed to create new spaces in ambient music rather than treading the ol' isolationist drone-scape. p

actually phil several years ago i started to shy away from ambient releases but have gotten back into the genre within the past year or so. if you like the pulse programming release i suggest you try: . Cathars: amorpheus cd (Miau-Miau International) . Andrew Coleman: s/t 12" (Thrill Jockey) . Shuttle358: optimal cd (12k) . Novisad: s/t cd (Tom) . Jacob Mandell: Healing cd (Kodama) . Minit: music cd (Sigma Editions) . Vladislav Delay: ele cd (Sigma Editions) -->-Lance--- mclance@nacs.net lance@inaudible.com p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states
