Just got an excellent new cd by Cologne's own Bionaut called "Friends" and it contains 15 tracks including remixes by Markus Schmickler, Mouse on Mars, Schlammpeitziger, and F. Ackerman. For those unfamiliar with the sound of the bionaut, he combines a deep cologne techno groove with a quirky spacey guitar elements. If you have last year's Burger/Ink release then you know exactly what the sound of Bionaut is like. You see, Bionaut is ½ of Burger/Ink and he also records as The Modernist amongst other guises. Anyway, here is the info on this recent relase: . The Bionaut: friends cd (EMI/Eat Raw/Harvest) Tracks: - rickenbacker elektro - wunschmaschinenpark - der kurze weg - interlude w/brian - sparring partner - aquamarine reprise - un buon domani fratello - wild horse annie as herself - weird wired world - good-bye-onaut - (i wish i was) tied to bertha - wild horse annie (res. edit) - student bashing on mars (mouse on mars remix) - wild horse annie im parageleiterfluchtflug (schlammpeitziger remix) - electric campfire (in a real ackermann style) btw: the track on this release entitled "good-bye-onaut" (and the inside art of the jewel case also states "good-bye-onaut.") tells an interesting story. Word on the street has is that the recent founding of the Popular Tools Organisation by Mr. Bionaut proper was sparked by ill dealings w/a certain revived EMI-funded/Cologne-themed electronic subsidiary, and that this release was conceived as the means to end an obligatory contractual engagement, that of the legal right to the name 'The Bionaut.' (Story courtesy of Hrvatski) btw: also recommended is the recent Modernist: Miss New Deal cd on the aforementioned Popular Tools Organization label. -->-Lance--- mclance@nacs.net lance@inaudible.com p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states

Yes! These are excellent tracks. This is a "best of" compilation of his work, although it excludes some of his early material like the blue 12" & "frugivore" (which honestly does sound a bit dated). The Bionaut is somehow understated but should appeal to fans of kolner musik. Burger is more "pop" as the Bionaut; minimal, but with intricate melodic development. Also, check out "Lush Life Electronica" which is one of my favorite albums--I easily listen to it twice a week. The Johnny Cash stuff ("i wish i was tied to bertha") is quite an accomplishment. The Modernist is more housey, but still has the same feel. The full-length, "Opportunity Knox," is not to be missed either. Bill
