This post is aimed for Kelley since I know your searching for the lush funky Detroit stuff lately, but the music I have come across recently is so darn good I have to share it with everyone. Maybe some of you know about the label Obliq Recordings, maybe I'm just clueless for not knowing about them but I just got ahold of there various artists comp from last year and it's juicy. Nate who runs the label as well is a super cool guy who I got to perform with last night. Anyway if you are a fan of B12, Stasis, Russ Gabriel, older Carl Craig, the Objets d'art comps or any of that somber and rich Detroit style techo you must check out this release. Plus the new stuff Nate was playing last night was top notch. Even at times getting dubby. more info is here: http://obliq.net/ and it says you can get the disk though people like PJ, really lovely stuff! peace Nate

I want to second this recommendation of the Obliq label stuff. I got their comp cd last year and really enjoyed it. When i get home from work this evening i'll repost that review as well as reviews for two new Obliq eps, a 10" & 12", both by Multicast and both with remixes from the some of the Pitchcadet boys (M-Tec & Accelera Deck). -->-Lance--- mclance@nacs.net lance@inaudible.com p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states

Well, here i go again with some random thoughts, this time the plug is on Obliq. While i look forward to an upcoming project called 'Iron Feather Journal,' Obliq have been displaying their rather quirky, electronic trickery on the latest Multicast 12"EP (obq-ep1), as well as dipping their feet into experimental ambient ground with a few tracks on the Obliq Sampler Comp including Multicast, Freq Modif 4, Finder, Ted Sturgeon, and Aquatic Ape released in 98. But do NOT let the 'ambient' tag deter you here. There's plenty of dark, Autechre'ish beats penetrating these soundsculptures too. There's a Multicast show (can't get enough of these fellaz) Live @ I.C.A. (June 20, 1997) which is packaged in a sweet 5 1/4" diskette folder on cdr-format (rough-cut). Although i haven't digested this one fully, it etches a path of skittery-electronica, with smooth (idm) melodies. Very nice.. Oh, and before i forget..I highly recommend the Multicast Ep01 (12") and EP02 (10") which are out now. Some of Obliq's atmospheric electronica soundscapes that will be getting lots of attention soon..guaranteed. I may need to absorb these tracks a bit more for completed thoughts, but with a first impression that knocks me into unknown territory, it's nice to hear a mix of Suction/Toshoklabs/CCO with Obliq's signature "sounds" intact. Check out www.obliq.net for all the information you may not have received in this email.. Pietro. PS-- Nate & Ron of Toshoklabs apparently did a gig last night called "Collective Unconscious" that i missed out on.. If anyone has comments on this, please feed me with the input! _____________________________________ Pietro Da Sacco, m b m @ n e t c o r e . c a ::: Grooves Magazine 002 ::: ::: Experimental Electronica in Words ::: http://www.rain.org/~audio/grooves/ ::: Insound.com Zinestand ::: http://www.insound.com/zinestand/grooves/

Iron Feather is a zine. Multicast (vs. Ted Sturgeon) is going to make an 10" ep available with issue #17. IFJ also did a 2xcd called Choonz & Warez a few years ago on which is a Multicast track. jeff `Pietro wrote:
