If you like Tech-House, smooth and melodic,(as was suggested to me once); run dont walk! (I am sure daniel @ mad monkey records will back me up on this) O-is T!

heh my tastes do tend towards detroit flavors now days (that and harsher styled electronics). I picked up this comp a while back. As a friend told me when he heard it: "you sure this is techno?" He was expecting the cold driving beats (which I am quite a fan of) but what he got was very soulful and deep music. Not all the tracks on the comp are exceptional but there isn't a one that is bad. Fans of the older black dog sound should take note of this comp. Nice introduction to the transmat label. -daniel

Detroit flavors have been treating my ears right for several years. Even when my musical tastes change, detroit is a sound i always find myself going back to... But the best (and hardest to find) introduction to the transmat label is a compilation called "Relics." Fourteen tracks from the classic Transmat catalog all segued by previously unreleased "interludes" written & preformed by Carl Craig and Derrick May. The artists featured on Relics are Model 500, Suburban Knight, Mayday, BFC, Rhythim Is Rhythim, Psyche, and Long Ago (Derrick May). An album of warm, beautiful, haunting detroit techno at it's finest. Some say "Relics" is the "holy grail" of detroit techno releases along with two other detroit techno compilations: Virtual Sex and Panic In Detroit. Here are the tracklistings of all three abovementioned d-comps: . Relics - A Transmat compilation cd/2x12" (Buzz/Transmat) Tracks: - Long Ago: a relic - Rhythim Is Rhythim: beyond the dance re-mix - BFC: evoltion - Long Long Ago: another relic - Model 500: info world - Rhythim Is Rhythim: strings of life - Mayday: wiggan re-mix - Psyche: crackdown re-mix - Mayday: ms 6 - Rhythim Is Rhythim: the dance - Suburban Knight: the art of stalking - Longer Than Long Ago: a relic - Rhythim Is Rhythim: drama - Suburban Knight: the groove . Virtual Sex comp cd/2x12" (Buzz) Tracks: - Bango: mystical adventures - Neuropolitique: bananagate - Stefan Robbers: foreign dimensions - As One: shambala - Rhythim Is Rhythim: icon - Redcell: in version - Carl Craig: at les - Lark: tedra FYI: bango = stacey pullen, redcell = b12, lark = kenny larkin . Panic In Detroit comp cd/2x12" (Buzz) Tracks: - Open House feat Placid Angles: rainforest - Prototype: the path - Yennek: serena x - M500: dimensions - Eddie "Flashin" Fowlkes: o.c.c. - Lucky Charm: double x-posure - Inertia: satisfaction - Eddie "Flashin" Fowlkes: pure afro sound FYI: Placid Angles = john beltran, Prototype & Lucky Charm = Dan Curtin, Yennek = kenny larkin, M500 = juan atkins, Inertia = gerald simpson Other detroit comps to seek out: . Biorhythms comp 2xcd (Network) . Elements & Experiments with Sound comp cd/2x12" (Planet E) . Intergalactic Beats comp cd/2x12" (Planet E) . 313 Detroit comp cd/2x12" (Infonet) . Tresor comps vols 1-4 cds/vinyl (Tresor) . Depth Charge comps vols 1-4 cds (Submerge) .
