mmm.some good artists - but what is the point? heard that andy weatherall turned them down cos he thought it was a ropey concept - how can you tinker with perfection? if it introduces people to can - fine, but everyone should just buy the original albums instead what next remixes of 'bitches brew'? - is nothing sacred? btw - talking of jim plotkin - 4th world's sound scape collective are dj'ing at tommorrow nights gig of his 'death ambient' project in stirling - be sure to say hello if you are there, next month 'ground zero' are performing live sm@4thworld http://dialspace.dial.pipex.com/4thworld/ check the 'propoganda' page - interviews + features on black dog/ as one/ musik aus strom / jimpster / compost / irdial + more

Well... uh... actually... Bill Laswell is currently working on a remix album of the work of ... (better take this sitting down) - Miles Davis. Miles was _the_ musical innovator of the second half of this century; I can't imagine he'd mind being remixed. It's only some of his old-time fans that play purist with his music; Miles was the original trend-setter / rule-bender / pioneer-mutant. "Bitches Brew" itself was despised by many Miles fans who were accustomed to his earlier be-bop style, just as many of those who loved his "Bitches Brew" style hated his later funk style, and what about his later incursions into pop-fusion, hip-hop, go-go...? The Miles method was the method of constant r/evolution. Bill Laswell, if anything, has a similar aesthetic, and I'm sure he'll do Miles proud, and probably annoy many Miles purists. I, for one, can't wait to hear the results! (Tone of child-like wonder off) 3

well, aside from all that...'Ege Bamyasi' is one of the best records in the history of the 'experimental rock' thing... Jaki/Holgar ryhthm section sounds more machine like than most machines but still comes off 100x more funky than any machine music . I'm not saying you should discount new music, but it's worth owning pretty much every Can record. If you get a chance check out the Can documantary in the 'Can Box' that Mute issued. Really excellent TV interview and performance footage. Good overview of the Can legacy. Jeff
