Astralwerks, other people, and Borders and my local indie shoppe say yes. But I can't get my hands on it either. Oh yeah, and CDNow.

If you've ever found u-ziq nauseating, then this may not be the one for you. It seems like a full-length elaboration on certain parts of "Lunatic Harness," most obviously the last track. The emphasis is on the melody even more so than on the most recent albums; they are bizarre or obscure in parts. Overall the album is very strings-oriented, and has what seems to be at least one track mocking Fat Boy Slim. The breaks are very similar (identical?) to those from "LH" and are used in much the same way. I REALLY like it and would recommend it if you're a u-ziq fan. Does anyone else see the similarity between "World of Leather" and "Bikini Ski Boat" from Jega's "Spectrum?" The Astralwerks promo poster (IDM posters!) says the new album is "14 tracks of atmospheric textures and mathematical beats." Unless Mike's math was 4 x 4 = 16 then I'm gonna say there wasn't much math involved.

My thoughts exactly. I think that they're feeding off of each other idealistically, like many IDM artists (I think of the Squarepusher/U-Ziq/Aphex Twin triforce that has been an ongoing thing). Hey, another Jega/Mu-Ziq connection: "German" from the Spectrum album sounds just like the beginning of "Zombies" from the Bluff Limbo album. Oohh, both tracks are the ninth song on each album, respectively. _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Bid and sell for free at http://auctions.yahoo.com

Yeah, I wasn't knocked out by 'Royal Astronomy' either. I liked the single, 'The Fear', which was a quirky slice of techno pop, but the rest of the album feels a bit... well, cold. All that "classical meets breakbeat" just doesn't sit well with me -- and Mr A. Twin did it so much better on 'Richard D James'. As did Global Goon on 'Cradle of History'. I've always found Paradinas' stuff a bit on-off anyway. I love the Tusken Raiders stuff, Urmur Bile Trax, some of the early Rephlex and even the Mike & Rich album (although I'm probably alone here!), but other things, such as the new album, Lunatic Harness, the Jake Slazenger album and the Speedy J colaboration don't quite work for me. -- Mark Stevens http://www.headspin.clara.net/

Hmm, just to give a different opinion, I find "The Fear" really annoying. Those vocals are just totally gratuitous, and the synth playing is all over the place...

Hmm, I think Mike's quasi-classical stuff on Lunatic Harness and Royal Astronomy is at least as good as the Girl/Boy type stuff of Aphex's...

Found this album a mix of horribly cheesy stuff and completely boring stuff... But, each to their own - no value judgements intended, just wanted to add a differing voice...
