I don't know if anyone has mentioned this yet, but the new Fallen Angels (Wax Doctor & Alex Reece) is pretty nice. I normally don't really care that much for either artists, but this one is different. Apparently, the next Alex Reece (on Virgin) is suppose to have a very retro 80's Detroit feel to it. Sounds interesting. METRO mixed CD There is a Metro mix cd out this week, I assume it is mixed by Matrix. Sounds really good. Fans of Matrix and Optical should look out for this one. If anyone gets this, I would like to hear a review. I hope that the mixing is more than just a straight mix of the tunes. I would have enjoyed the Wormhole mixed CD (Virus) if the mixing was more innovative (versus a straight mix). Sounds interesting. [mikebee] i have yet to hear Reece's solo LP but the Fallen Angels album is fucking awesome. The whole thing is in a Detroit vein, using classic synths for sounds, while the drums are punchy and solid. 'biophonic' will definitely be on my chart at the end of the year, and 'like the sun' is slowly making its way there...get this! mb

Biophonic is great! "Like the Sun" is pretty nice, but "Blue Skies" is the one that stay in my head. Usually drum n bass with vocals is harder for me to get into, but after a few listens it grows on you. Deborah Anderson [Mo Wax] sings on Blue Skies, I went back and relistened to her ep on Mo Wax...it's pretty decent. _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I second that (or third it, I guess). This record is very nifty. Quite a lovely surprise with dreamy futuristic synth lines over sharp beats. And the vocals are in no way intrusive.

Well, the mixing is not that remarkable. Matrix just sort of blends one song into another. He doesn't do a bad job, but he does it so that the mix is pretty unnoticeable. Admittedly, I only listened to it in the store, and didn't buy it, but I wasn't all that impressed. But bear in mind that I don't like compilations in general, so my opinion may not be the most reliable in this instance. The two Optical tracks were pretty good though, especially the one remixed by Ed Rush & Optical. I would rather have had just those two tracks on a 12". What I did like was the new Polar album on Certificate 18. Very nice stuff, with some excellent production. If you like the Fallen Angels album you might want to check it out. Not the same but somewhat similar in spirit on some tracks. My favorite being 'One and only'. Oh, and the new Smokey Joe on Smokers Inc. is great. Just the thing to blast in your car while zooming down the road. Love those evil basslines. David
