I have been enjoying the kumquat CD quite a bit. It's really a weird collection of elements together -- Orb-like sample happy, but full of electro rhythms, and very cleanly produced. Kumquat tracks are composed of sounds like vibes and clean guitar that you don't hear much these days -- while the tracks are fairly dense with different sounds, they're always musical. And with Rich Devine, Phoenecia(sp), Aphex Twin, and Autechre working with extreme DSP abuse as their modus operandi, it's nice to hear someone working things out in a completely different fashion. One thing most of you youngsters might not appreciate is that the "circle stars" track is very appealing to the under-12 crowd. Every time I play that for kids they go wild. It's in that category of "things kids think are cool." which I find appealing. And it's actually a good company to be in. Other things little kids love are They Might Be Giants, Kraftwerk's Computer world, and of course "Little Fluffy Clouds." Well constructed whimsy gets 'em every time.

yeah. to me thats a HUGE appeal of the kumquat cd. the silly, childlike element to it. fits nicely with jj perrey/g kingsley stuff, some land of the loops, that mario paint silliness that came out on irdial, the conlongib piece on the lucky kitchen video game collection, this odd le tone 12" i have with a dragon on the cover.. my 4 year old brother digs this stuff. his name is andrew. he also likes aphex twin's SAW vol 1, raffi, barney (hey, before you knowck it, think of how bad the last cd you listened to was.. :).. but he really goes wild for the meco version of wizard of oz. oh, and he likes dark, hard jungle. go figure? chris.
