Seeing as how I've been responsible for about half a dozen Middleton posts in
the last week I'm clearly biased...but I still gotta stand up for the man on
this one. Anyone that can play Cream one week and the Big Chill the next gets
props in my book. That's one of the reasons I'm behind what he and Pritchard
do, they've done nearly every style of electronic music and done it well. That
kind of holistic view is immensely more interesting (to me) than the kind of
ruts that any scene - be it idm or jungle or house - gets stuck in. Maybe
others don't agree but this is exactly why I get interested when people on idm
start talking gamelan or electro or indian film music. Good music is good
music, plain and simple. I don't know what you'd consider "chart fodder" - from
what I've heard, Middleton plays solid house - Wamdue Kids, Isolee, Azymuth,
etc. No cheese there. And you can't fault the man for wanting to pay his
bills, say what you will. More open-minded DJ's, please...Brock
(this isn't a flame, by any means. simply an opinion)
