There hasn't been too much chat about the
folks over in New Zealand, Involve Records to
be precise. Remember Elephant Electronics,
the "Album" full length by Bevan Smith aka
Aspen? Well it looks like Bevan and Michael
Upton (fellow IDM List member?), have been
recording stuff as Patio, and are scheduled to
release "Parallel Play" in the next few months.
(Check out Urban Sounds and Cognition Audio
for more input/output).. Jet Jaguar, Michael Upton's
project is set to release his self titled full length
sometime this August as well. Aspen's "Are You
That Retail Snob?" will be out in NZ very soon,
and other music by Bevan include the Signer
alias, and another upcoming project later this
year.
With all that out of the way, i'd like to briefly
introduce the Involve Compilation featuring tracks
by none other than Aspen, Jet Jaguar and Patio.
Nine tracks in total, limited to 15 copies (cdr-demo),
[01aa]. Just when you thought the Emanated and
Dated [Toshoklabs] comp's were tremendous,
Involve slowly emerge into the picture and filter their
sounds into the stream of soft-electronic noises.
Aspen's tracks are smooth electronica [Chain Reaction
meets Funkstorung/Autechre - in ambient mode], while
Jet Jaguar engages his soothing hypnotic techno
extractions (think Pole). Patio, the combo of Michael
and Bevan joining brains, combines atmospheric chaos,
pulsing beats, and subtle yet intelligent rhythms that
are easy to digest. Highlight tracks on this compilation
are 1 through 9 (no track names). Highly recommended
IDM for those who want highly entertaining electronic
brain music. Seek this out immediately..
Involve Records molds a series of abstract melodies,
similar to Pole, Twine, Oval, Toshoklabs and Suction,
while retaining a uniquely attractive vibe that propels
itself to the other side of IDM...
Looks like Bent Crayon and s://kimo will be carrying
these once they're released for us "domestic" folks.
HardWax in Germany..
Pietro.
