Speaking of Sesame Street, wasn't there a post a while back in which someone's vinyl collection was broken down by category, including 30 records in the Sesame Street category? (Possibly Hvratski, but I could be wrong). That's a serious collection. Dare I suggest the idea of sampling/remixing some of this material? I feel like this is something I've heard Kid Koala do. Maybe Ibiza would go for an anthemic dance floor remix of "C is for Cookie." Maybe "E is for Ecstasy," with Cookie all loved up, guzzling bottled water, hugging all the other muppets, eyes big as saucers - oh wait, they're already big as saucers. Makes you wonder what those muppets get into backstage. On this note, I'm off to lotusland. - Fred Church bigkumquat@aol.com http://www.thelocus.com/kumquat np: colongib mapping music - kfat004cd on kracfive (thanks, chris)

I've actually been mp3'ing my favorite Bob-n-Ray radio progs lately, so maybe I should try grabbing some of the best Sesame Street. One more record I forgot to mention that is great for scratching is "The Count Counts", which has him dj'ing/personality on a radio station doing the "countdown" top hits and reading a lot of numbers. Well, it goes without saying that you can do a lot of those James Brown "1.. 2... 3... 4..(hit it!)" scratching tricks off this record, but you get "bah hahh hahhh ahhhh" instead of JB's "ungh" shouts... I have a fair number of CTW records. The problem is that they were usually played on a Close'N'Play by kids who are as fascinated by rubbing sand in the grooves as in hearing the record.

Not to mention the 'Toytown Techno' movement, who made an early breakbeat anthem of the Sesame Street theme.

My personal favorite is "Bert and Ernie's Greatest Hits." There's a cut where Bert is sick, and Ernie is cataloguing Bert's symptoms without acknowledging that he's ill. Bert ends up yelling "I'M SICK ERNIE, I'M SICK!" which I've scratched into live sets...
