I'll probably be the last one to speak up about this spectacular show...well
firstly I went by myself and wore the white Squarepusher shirt. Talked to a
few people (about Squarepusher) I don't know if it was anyone on this list
but nonetheless a VERY friendly crowd of people out there and I'll
definitely try to make the Phonecia show next month. Maybe I can meet up
with some list folks before hand.
Well, the dj excellent stuff...played hangable auto bulb, donkey rhubarb,
1st chiastic slide track, some spoken word stuff, and alot of folky kind of
things...the beach boys christmas record made me laugh...once again dj Greg
Davis (local chicagoan?) great choice...
lex just kind of perched in a booth in the club banged out his set on his
laptop (I came in and thought everybody was gonna be doing their stuff on
laptops...somewhat mortified I think)...anyways, don't know if he was
actually 'twiddling' with software or whether he was just playing the
sequence (anyone know?), but the set went along seemlessly (a couple of
people even talked to him during his set)...no real straight ahead beats for
the crowd to dance to...seemed like mostly everyone just ignored it and just
talked. I loved every bit, nodded my head.
Kit seemed to have some problems with his computer...was he like using a
keyboard with his mac? Anyways more of a diverse sort of ambience sort of
droney set with clicks and pans...Not as common as lex or Funkstorung, but
really interesting nonetheless, sort of the Oval sort of thing.
Once his computer crashed not much was done...except Funkstorung readily
slipping behind their gear and starting up immediately. Chris De Luca is
the most amazing person to see in action. After the first song Mike got up
and shook his fists in the "i'm a winner" fashion, because of the applause.
I can't really remember alot of the songs...I think the third one with the
melody that kept repeating over and over until the beats came, seemed a
little upbeat for me (dance floor friendly)...as well as most of the other
tunes...mostly long too (8 minutes or more....). I couldn't stop shaking my
head as to how amazed I was at the structure and depth of many of the
songs...
So I eagerly anticipate seeing hopefully an album of some of the tracks, or
live bootlegs passed around...
I'm glad to hear that people that aren't even into the latest realeses of
these artists (lex and funk.) are turning out. What'd you guys think?

BTW: Alex(aunculpt) is a pretty good looking guy
PS: Sorry if you guys didn't pick up a poster...I almost left mine there,
but came back and got it. Maybe Mike Javor has some extras...talk to him...
