This probably isn't IDM, but can someone give me a few tips on KEN ISHII'S FLARE project? Is it anything like his regular work? I'm quite enjoying his new one: 'Sleeping Madness'. thanx rab

the co-fusion 12's are minimal techno. "grip" is an album of softer detroit tracks and experimental stuff. "re-grip" is an album of remixes by other people that is rather fucked up in places.

is it all big-beat? eric

Flare is better in some respects than his regular work. Grip is more of the dissonant, non-techno type stuff (still has slick beats) that you might have heard inklings of on his two earlier albums. I havne't heard "Sleeping Madness" so I can't make a comparison there. All I can really say is that it's no "EXTRA". Re-Grip is nicely fucked up. The Co-Fusion, Rei Harakami, Keigo Oyamada and Dr. Sheepman mixes are all worth the cost of the CD by themselves. Very diverse, sometimes almost exactly like the original and sometimes having almost nothing to do with it. Go for the Flare. I did, and I'm happy. Also, in a little bit of off topic news, I almost went shopping for a sampler today but discovered the new Korg drum machine instead. Anybody want to wire me $400 real quick? I'll pay you back... Tom
