don't put squarepusher (or variations of it) in the subject header; it leads to arguments, big ones.. long ones.. that have nothing to do wif squarepusher ;O) ok, content. picked up coldcut's "let us play!" on the strength of a snippet of "more beats & pieces". that was a while ago. recently, picked up coldcut's "let us replay!" on the strength of the daddy rips it up mix on "let us play!" of "more beats & pieces", and i really like the remix of it too. ok, the point. i know that there's a "more beats & pieces" ep out there. is this widely available still? i have a feeling it might be out of print, but i'm not sure... help on that is appreciated. similarly, tho, because that's rather quick and almost a waste of bandwidth (yay!), i'm wondering about recommendations or other similar things in that vein, wif the eclectic mixes 'n stuff, DJ-esque stylings 'n stuff. as the thread of dj'ing just came up (again), i figured it would be an ok time to ask :O) (ooh, self-justification). any similar artists wif that "feel"? obviously not coldcut clones, but that are similar in style and production to the "beats & pieces" style. it's probby wide open. but there's never been a lack of high quality releases discussed on the list (well, besides flanger...), so i'm optimistic :O) thanks in advance :O) -derek np: plaid - rest proof clockwork - that track after "air locked" (hey, i was reading through the digest when the rest of the album was playing, ok? :P heh) +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ I am a kind of paranoiac in reverse. I suspect people of plotting to make me happy. -J.D. Salinger

Yep. Or it should be. Ninja keeps thier singles in print for a while. I think i bought my copy at Let it Be, but that was at least a year ago. Online stores should have it. On the single, there's a moody john McEntire mix which sounds nothing like the orignal. Two turntablist remixes by Kid Koala and Q-Bert that are basically scratching the same few bits over and over. I find them kindof annoying, moreso than other ISP stuff. T-Power does a pretty good jungle remix. Best mix though is the live version (digitally edited from several performances) by Strictly Kev, Kid Koala, and Ollie Teeba. Like a good live long version with some new bits thrown in. What did you think of the rest of the album (Let Us Play)? Some of it took a while to grow on me. At first i only liked 3-4 tracks, but each time i tried listening to the tracks i didn't like, i found out that i really liked them. Pan Opticon rules my world.

3 12"s that i will recommend, all ISP related, and not quite the gems of MB&P. Mix Master Mike "Valuemeal Combo" (often called "Atmosfear/Vyce Grypp") Side B is two album tracks "Can of Kickass" (i believe) and "Vyce Grypp" which are pretty good, but the A-Side "Atmosfear" is really great, lotsof more recognizable samples, more fun. Also, at 15-20 minutes long, worth the price of a 12". You can also get this at CDuctive. Invisible Skratch Piklz "Vs. Da Klamz Uv Deth" Similar to "Atmosfear" but with the benefit of hearing how a group of DJs works it out, doing different bits. Side B is the edited version of Side A. Also 15-20 minutes. Also on CDuctive. Invisible Skratch Picklz "Invasion of the Octopus People" I'm not sure where you could find this (the first 2 are on Asphodel). My friend got this a long time ago. The first part of this track can be found on the Q-Bert album, no problem, but it's not really in the lines of "MB&P." The second half, which might not be them, (it's oddly done, part 1 is weird and fades out and part to is party). Anywyas, it fills the gaps between "More Beats" and Grandmaster Flash's "Adventures on the Wheels of Steel" through 80;s and early 90's hip hop. Really long samples, though, and not much scratching. Also, the Coldcut Journeys by DJ sounds like a 70-minute version of more beats and pieces. I think they used about every sample in MB&P somewhere in their JDJ. Too bad this is out of print. _________________________________ Adam Roesch / roesch@augsburg.edu University of Idaho / Moscow / ID / USA Visit my Fila Brazillia/Pork Recordings fan site: http://dogbert.augsburg.edu/~roesch/pork/ "Because success needs killing" TRICKY

Hmm, i guess i have a weakness for a Jello rant. Love his appearance on the JDJ too. Maybe i should check out the dead kennedys, but i think his vocals over guitars wouldn't quite be the same.
quoted 2 lines likewise the last one with the woman talking about>likewise the last one with the woman talking about >sex - har har, is that supposed to be funny, or clever, or what?
Sexy, and i think it works. (unless you're talking about "Noah's Toilet" which has a woman talking and some sex, but i thought you were referring to "I'm wild about that thing". "Noah's toilet was i think the last track on the album i got into, i guess with repeated listens, the woman's voice becomes strangely soothing, which is probably why i took to "Miss Virginia Epitome" on first listn to "Let us replay" np: orbital "middle of nowhere" (what was the problem?) _________________________________ Adam Roesch / roesch@augsburg.edu University of Idaho / Moscow / ID / USA Visit my Fila Brazillia/Pork Recordings fan site: http://dogbert.augsburg.edu/~roesch/pork/ "Because success needs killing" TRICKY
