I think this discussion has been done before, but it's never wrong to
re-evaluate :) I agree with the fact that nothing really worth listening
has come out (with the possible exception of the Ovuca album, which
actually has some nice tunes on it) for quite a while now. But the thing
is: there are always people that do like it. I've never really liked
Like a Tim for example, but a friend of mine really gets into that
stuff. I like the sillyness in his tunes, nothing seems to go straight,
but it's hardly something I'd play more than once or twice. It's
commendable (or hard-headed? :) that Rephlex keeps pumping this stuff
out onto us, they're really bringing something different to the
overcrowded market of electronic music. Maybe it's not to everyone's
liking, but it's certainly different :)
On another note: There's a great article on Funckarma in this month's
Dutch version of Future Music Magazine! The coverdisc even has an
exclusive tune! In the article the two Funcken brothers (Funcken is
their last name, I didn't know that :) say that they have released some
stuff under different aliases...anyone know anything more about that?
They're quite secretive about it, the only thing that's said in the
article is: "the more perceptive listener's will sometimes have a
definate moment of recognition" (that's a very bad translation btw, the
original is in Dutch offcourse, but I hope you get the picture :) Maybe
Quench are none other than the Funcken brothers after all?
Greetings!
