some very quick reviews... Squarepusher : Maximum Priest (nothing) 1.)Song: Our Underwater Torch 2.)Decathlon Oxide 3.)You're Going Down 4.)Cranium Oxide 5.)Two Bass Hit (ae Mix) 6.)Circular Flexing (Yee-King Mix) 7.)Shin Triad (Wagonchrist Mix) this CD is weird, weird, weird. sounds like tom's been noodling around with some more software apps. much more 'angular' in nature. don't know what direction he's heading, but it looks to be interesting. slight hint of autechre-ish tweakiness and melodies. (the jazz influence is still there, but it's not nearly as present as his last releases... a bit more experimental in the electronic realm.) i think jenkinson has a plan and this is probably the beginning of some new territory for him. I-F : The Man From Pack (interdimensional transmissions) 1.)Secret Desire (vox) 2.)Theme from PACK 3.)Spysatellite Communication Sequence 4.)The Getaway Scene 5.)Moonbase next to G. 6.)Weightless Approach 7.)Eyes in the Sky 8.)Rage of Aquarius 9.)The Man from PACK (longue) 10.)Midnight-connection to Mars 11.)Floating Away in a Hole Darker than Yours (Melvin White remix) 12.)The Wanderer 13.)Secret Desire (instrumental) 14.)Il Tramonto goofy (in a good way) electro very similar to 'fucking consumer.' (perhaps a little too similar..) taken in small chunks it's quite nice but kinda hard to digest all 14 tracks in one listen. more use of the vox would be jiffy (yes, jiffy...) and perhaps add some more diversity (sound wise...) into these tracks. still a nice release with the i-f foldout packaging deal. (this one explaining the story of the man from pack) Kumquat : s/t (kumquat) 1.)circle stars 2.)in the wonderworld of science 3.)the windmills the fairies 4.)proboscis 5.)the lawn is gonna die 6.)gradually expanding rutabaga 7.)everyone is afraid of clowns 8.)kumquat manifesto 9.)first the drum first off, great packaging design by mr. church and friends. (and the fact that it's free... don't know for how long though...) anyway... written and produced by fred church. (bigkumquat@aol.com) some guitar samples courtesy megamidi france. mastering joe yannece. invaluable assistance todd parker. art by randy stearns. for beverly. fun fun happy music with a sesame street meets electronics approach. (well, a few songs have their dark moments...) very well produced with a nice selection / variation of electronic / acoustic (sampled i believe...) tunes that will leave you bouncing with joy. great driving music that's children friendly. fred's onto something here, and i hope he continues to progress his style. zeros and poles that plot the spectrum (thank fourier and hanning), christian -- " Make More Juice! i sincerely think you are giving this disc a bit much in your vagueness.... its really just maybe a little bit more interesting than the stuff since music has rotted.... underwater torch is another ultra watery reverbed slow loose jazzy jam.....decathlon oxide is an awkward, dark, kinda hard, dark green and brown drum and bass track....youre going down starts out with with another loose loungey a bit more colorful jam then rolls into a bassline freakout....nothing really new technically so far......cranium oxide is just this really big awkward drone thing with vocal splurges in the background.....the ae mix is kinda cool...nice sound space is created....spatial/but in your face kick drum at the same time....pretty repetitive with a very stumbling jenkinson like melody decimated in the background.....autchre production with jenkinson colors....the yeeking mix is ultra high end busted up breaks and cymbals and acidy 303 lines....sounds more like jenkinson than jenkinson does these days ::D thats not really fair of me, but u kno what i mean.... :\ the wagon christ mix is this really honky fat tromping song....it sounds like a big man on his way to the donut shop theme.....really in your face and wide...... so with all those descriptions.....i honestly was not happy with this release.....i wish i had better things to say......i love tom's old stuff to death and thats still spinning in my discman while his new stuff is collecting dust.....i hope he's having fun doing what he's doing...thats what its all about....but i cant say im having as much fun with it. i would spend my cash on the new bjork all is full of love remixes 12" set....the plaid mix is fucking sweet.....also the new to rococo rot made me smile alot. im sorry tom....its frustrating. i put 'beep street' on a mixtape for me love this weekend if that makes you feel better.....
