i have heard mixed reviews. i happen to think that some of the tracks (one pbo, one phoenecia, and one richie devine for sure) are right on the mark! i enjoy the release. music, four lunchpails: wednesdays 7-8pm kuci 88.9fm www.kuci.org _chicks dig laptops_

just a few thoughts from a couple initial listens... the most obvious, first-degree comparison i could make is that it looks & sounds like chiastic slide. same design style (it's a wonder if tdr is taking itself seriously or just revelling in self-pastiche), same low melodic content, same obtuse drums & other scraping noises, which, although very pretty, get a bit tedious to listen to, because everybody is essentially doing the same thing throughout the disc. sure, they do it fairly well, but at the expense of a healthy dose of variety. someone had pointed the artificial intelligence compilations as a reference point. well, taking ai2 as an example, i would say that both compilations indeed have the same problem: _they have the same freaking style throughout_. you could fool someone into thinking both are single artist releases, except not as cohesive. that said, this mostly negative review might overshadow the fact that most of the tracks on ischemic folks are so skillfully crafted that it would be unjust to simply dismiss it as a mere compendium of ae-by-numbers audio doodles. give it a listen, see if you like. but don't expect a revolutionary disc -- which was the slightly misleading impression i was getting from early reviews on this list. -- david turgeon at http://www.notype.com

as an ae influenced record, how would it compare to funkstorung's new remix album? -- chrisjacobwilks

it's a good, if not mind-blowing, example of PhD-level booty music and weird textures for weird textures sake tracks. i think the richard c. devine contributions are among the finest things i've heard this year (and i've heard a fuckuva lot this year). warp *should* sign this cat. i like music that you have to think about. don't dismiss this music as ae-wannabe. i think ae just opened up a whole new genre for people to explore and that's what it's all about. (plus: i got a big fat discount on this cd so i can't complain.) all tracks are brilliant in their own respect. devine is from lexaunculpt? and: what's so damn good about funkstoerung? i've heard what's on bleepbloop, and the bjork remix. didn't do anything for me. a little too simplistic. melodies are uninspired, beats seem all the same to me. do you think additionalproductions might change my mind? should i bother with it? on a similar tip: what i've heard from lexaunculpt is amazing. i love that shit. any full lengths from them? tomas np: ischemic folks (i've got to hear what i'm talking about after all)

no, devine is just devine :) and he's from atlanta. alex is the fellow from lexaunculpt and he's from so-cal.

the funksturong mixes are just FUN. i adore the remixes they do but have yet to hear an original track from them that really grabs my attention.
