Thanks for the heaps of responses about online shops! I've got a lot of browsing to do... Can anyone vouch for the reliability of GEMM? They sure do have a lot of stuff, but It's one of those sites where you just don't feel confident that you'll get waht you order...like someone cut + pasted from a catalog... Speaking of which, I *did* receive a partial order from myshopnow.com. It came about two weeks after placing my order online (about one week before the thread started here). Then, yesterday I got a form e-mail stating they were sorry for the delay in the rest of my order, and that they hoped to ship stuff soon. So, it's now been 3 1/2 weeks, I've received 1 of the 3 cds I ordered, and my credit card hasn't been charged for any of it yet. Brian crandall@nets.com

GEMM is really just a central web interface for lot's of individual shops and sellers, so it's difficult to vouch for the reliability of GEMM. i've sold a ton of obscure 80's / 90's / 41d/ shoegaze stuff through GEMM and i usually ship same day. (but everything i list is in stock) it's kind of like eBay, there is feedback posted for most sellers, worthwhile to peruse that prior to ordering from anyone. it's a nice service though and a boon to individual sellers like myself who don't do the volume to justify setting up credit card access. np: iF vs. that nigger peeeeeeeeeece, -- Jeff Davis pHlow@earthlink.net fn:216.533.6303 fx:216.266.2310 text:2165336303@mobile.att.net pHlow.linx: home.earthlink.net/~phlow/ Bochum Welt: www.bochumwelt.com Rotator Locator: hyperreal.org/music/rotator/

As others have said, Gemm is really a bunch of stores. I would advise against ordering from WMI or Allstars, as their stuff is pretty sketchy. (especially backorders). I once ordered like 7 things direct from WMI and 2 eventualy came. One was eventulally cancelled, and the other 4 were just deleted when the six month time period ran out. Allstars looks like the same thing only more expensive. _________________________________ Adam Roesch / roesch@augsburg.edu University of Idaho / Moscow / ID / USA Visit my Fila Brazillia/Pork Recordings fan site: http://dogbert.augsburg.edu/~roesch/pork/ "Because success needs killing" TRICKY

I "ordered" something from GEMM once, but the local store did not have the CD that they had listed (DHS' cd). The local store was also painfully slow in acknowledging the order and even saying "yea we dont' got it". But that was just that one particular storefront that dealt with GEMM and isn't neccesarily typical of the whole operation. -pete -- (peter.royal|osi)@pobox.com - http://pobox.com/~osi "god invented turn signals for a reason" uin#153025

Gemm is actually a search engine type outfit FOR several shops, so it really depends which shop is handling your order. You're going to find shops which pull *bait and switch* tactics (listing WAY oop titles on their website which they don't have and aren't going to get), have listings which haven't been updated, etc. Then again, I've found some real deals through there as well. I always order with that "grain of salt". It's a crap shoot, but no fault of Gemm - I find it a great service. I just picked up an old Associates lp. (still sealed) for $2.99 through them. I'm happy. jeff Brian Williams wrote:
