ahh, must be the yunx/datathief split. which i thought was only going to be a 12" split, must be a promo yunx is reminiscent of black dog/plaid. datathief (what i've heard) has been mad 'drill n bass' type stuff in a similar vein as to paradinas' stuff, only a bit darker? yunx and datathief can both be heard on the 0161 comp. i say pick this one up; you may have the only cd copy; tony _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? was it in a gray/metallic handmade cover? if so, it's the 5-song yunx s/t ep cd-r, of which only 100 copies have been made. i have it, & it's quite good although not groundbreaking or anything. i guess the usual comment is "reminescent of black dog". i would say it's very much in the vein of most classic artificial intelligence-era warp stuff, except with more complex song structures rather than just build-ups. doesn't go very far as experimentation goes, but it's a solid release nonetheless. -- david turgeon at http://www.notype.com

had to make a quick comment, to beef up the (possibly dammning) faint praise from david, even though i mostly agree w/ it, esp its similarity to ai(ii) and continuing in the old-skool idm vein of bola, and other pitchcadet releases et al. however it takes those elements and adds v. subtle touches of drill'n'bass as an underlying percussive pattering effect rather than the usual loud drums battering yer head associated w/ that genre. also the hesitent building melodies are as top notch as i've found in this area, clean and simple, never getting too muso or proggy. all underpinned w/ some slinky bass and touches of syncopated funk and electro. no part really overwhelms or takes control though. on the strength of this i got the other pitchcadet releases by m-tec and accelera dek, and while both fine, the yunx ep's the one i find the most enjoyable, for the simple reason that i can't get the tunes out of my head. i usually like the more experimental end of the range, but then i'm also a sucker for pop music. -martin

The Yunx Ep is quite brilliant.. past descriptions are quite accurate, soothing and melodic, if you see one definately grab a copy since there are only 100 floating around. My only complaint is the CD-R, which is one of those cheap see through deals.. mine was quite dirty and skips quite frequently in my player. The packaging is definately interesting, but not very conducive to keeping the music in great condition.. just a thought. But still worth the dough. js

Ok, so on the strength of everyone's conviction, I got both the accelera deck, and the Yunx. Mos' definitely impressed with the accelera deck. Definitely, no absolute standout tracks but just a really nice listen the whole way through. The yunx I was a little less impressed with, but I gave it only a cursory listen. I can't remember, did someone say there was a datathief one as well? -sg- -----Original Message----- From: idm-owner@hyperreal.org [mailto:idm-owner@hyperreal.org] On Behalf Of :. yeah, yunx/datathief 12" split 100 copies. Acceleradeck has a pretty impressive discograpy for the amt. of time he has been releasing stuff; the remix of glitch for Obliq is a real standout track, the clanking off kilter percussion is reminiscent of elements of Chiastic Slide. he is really getting into doing more experimental/ complex electronics and it works %very well. also a 16min. remix of japanese noise artist Aube will prove to be one of his best works. the Cataract Beats comp. should be out soon too, tracklisting as follows (and the michael faksesch track is wicked! funkstorung track is from BreakArt) multicast-foehn. funkst?rung-tank. yunx-ellipsis. accelera deck-sheffield melodies. max tundra-doggy biscuits. bochum welt-les enfants qui s'aiment. wooden spoon-ptunkuk. m-tec-nerrve (removed mix). commercial-commercial 11. datathief-interupt (version zero). v/vm-valence ville (stranger*de^construct0). michael fakesch-sega. _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? There is one called narcotic beats the vinyl comes with a bonus track (a very long(15 min+ I beleive) and good bonus track). Also, a limited number came on mint green vinyl. There is a CD version available as well but it is missing the bonus track. -daniel Head Monkey Mad Monkey Records http://monkey.eliteware.com On Tue, 15 Jun 1999, Scot G wrote:

Also Conviction and Crack is a full album by AC--out this spring in fine fashion around the same time as the Yunx and M-Tec's (Aaron Tweedy) Datalife. Might mention the Kiss/Burn EP on Endorphin, a split 12-inch with some rather nice bits by both Chris and Aaron. Quite a different sound for both of them, but similar sonic qualities. Jeely's done an Audio Wishe project as well. laz daniel wrote:
