I agree that this is the dominant trend in their output of late but I still think there is just about enough (human) music in there to make it worthwhile....you just wouldn't want the musical content to decrease any further in that sense! Hey, maybe it's a demonstration of why computers will probably never be able to match humans in composing original, moving music?! They can replicate emotive patterns but probably not connect many sequences together into an emotional whole that is more than the sum of its parts. In that sense EP7 is quite subversive which could be deliberate?! But then I do think there is still some human content in LP5/EP7......?

Interesting thought. I think Orbital have managed to include vocal samples in a way that really adds to their music when so often vocals can detract in a rather gratuitous way. Would be interesting to see what ae would do if they used more vocals but I wouldn't hold your breath...!

I wonder if EP7 is really a collection of unused/partially used out-takes from certain periods of their work - and in particular Incunubula and LP5? Though I think they may have messed around a bit with some of the older material for this release....I certainly found it refreshing to hear echoes of Incunubula compared to the more dry recent output. But I'm still fascinated by LP5 material all the same. It just doesn't satisfy my musical yearnings as much as their earlier material. I think their musical ability is one of the things that sets them apart and so I hope they continue to invest in that along with the experimental developments in music-making. Cheers, Jonny

not to mention the computer does not speak with music, it has nothing to say.. it's simply a chain reaction.. a computer will never compose a melody with heart, muuuuuuuuuuuuuuuch less perform it in a meaningful way.. however. I imagine using a tool such as a computer to create sounds from the patterns of strange algorhythms... etc. etc. many noise making possibilities.. *sigh*... oh well.. it's not worth it to me to sign off this list right now, I have alot to use it for.. it's an information library, furthermore there are plenty of wonderful people out there on the list, I've met them. I wouldn't suggest to anyone getting involved in the social struggle of pure whineyness that goes on around here,... I remember George Carlin once saying he could see the universe in people's eyes, but once they get together and start forming a group to hide their individualities,.. these days people have come up with more and more clever excuses not to be chill. This list is the most un-chill up tight anal squeeze in the world. By all means, as a place of peaceful exchange of ideas and thoughts and experiences.. which idealistically it should be, it is instead a never ending strive towards the beginning of a circle.. a never ending race towards what I'm not so sure.. all we ever do is exchange facts.. it's like an information list and whoever has the most information wins. and the length of time having knowing that junk and owning that shit is the frosting on the cake.. or is it visa versa? all I can do is sigh when I think about that, and that's it sigh and whatever.. because whatever, WHATEVER.. that's it. To even waste a second of your life worrying about who came first, or who did what first.. or what fucked who when where whatever.. F*CK IT<.-~ .............................................................................. ........................ well it doesn't matter... the internet is not a replacement for real life anyhow. I'm not going to say anymore I've said enough. n
