Thanks to mark@sonance.demon.co.uk (Mark Stevens) for suggesting the real dirt on this post: "Well, they're real enough in the sense that someone, somewhere is posting messages and signing off as Sean and Rob. As for whether or not it's Autechre is open to debate, but Sean and Rob don't strike me as the sort of guys who'd just set up a brand, spanking new Demon account purely to post a few lines of bullshit in a music mailing list. They also strike me as the sort of guys who'd know how to set up Pegasus properly -- and at least be using the latest version of it." Perhaps the poster ( who(m)ever he/they ) may be in it for the ride, for fun? Is there anyone out there who can *really* see a musician ( no less a rather famous one ) going to a list, reading reviews/discussions which vary from total praise to slam AND THEN POST BACK to the list ( under their OWN NAMES ?) with: ">> Rewson, SAFE, Waihopai, INFOSEC, ASPIC, Information

? I can't for the life of me think why Sean and Rob would give a *dog's ass* what folks on this, or any other, music list think. If it realy is them, they just posted the *funniest* post in the history of this list. I should have saved this post as my last name is interspersed in there. I'm so excited I'm wiping off my keyboard....... Peter PS: can anyone see a generic email "hotword" factor in the above quote from S + R?....guess someone out there has been reading too much Noam Chomsky.

Disregarding questions of authorship (uh...), almost the exact same thing happened betwixt Sonic Boom (nee Peter Kember, founding member of the Spacemen 3) and the DroneOn mailing list (which started out essentially as a Sp 3 mailing list). A friend of his was forwarding selected e-mails discussing his oeuvre, which prompted Kember to Lower the Boom with a fairly bitchy e-mail suggesting that the list membership was comprised of snot-nosed prattles who had nothing better to do than spread malicious gossip. As the list had long since evolved into a reasonable discussion place for a wide variety of musics (and not just the coming and goings of Spacemen 3-related bands), the list response was along the lines of bemused pity (Kember's persona was never the sort to suggest he was often in touch with reality- back issues of Conflict and Forced Exposure have fairly incriminating interviews with the man that demonstrate this fairly handily). In other words, being crapped on by your idols is actually a good sign. -rob
