On my Sony Discman, you can achieve the same result by having ESP on in shuffle mode. Since ESP buffers 10-20 seconds of music, it will reach the end of a track before the song ends. It will cue up the next track while the first one continues, and when the first one finishes, the next one starts up immediately. This technique works great when dubbing a selection of tracks from a continuous mix; if the CD was indexed properly (say, at the end of a 4x4 beat sequence), the tracks run together seamlessly. - Bob Weisend - rweisend@falcon.csc.calpoly.edu

That opportunity certainly would have saved everyone a couple hundred bucks on MiniDisc players. Commercial interests aside, I'm not sure why they didn't just make it available as a series of MP3s. I've seen bootlegs on the web, but that's a whole other story. -M On Fri, 11 Jun 1999, Bob Weisend wrote:

You mean people bought MD players just for this release?!? Buy MD deck(s) because they're cool as hell, not for a single release on SKAM... -d.w.

I know what you mean. I can't say I'm certain, but the context of many emails I've read about the Gescom minidisc suggested that ... well, not that folks necessarily bought the player specifically for this release, but that it was the, for lack of a better comparison, "killer app" that convinced them to make a decision that, in other circumstances, they may have made at a later date. Definitely -- I admit that Gescom's "Minidisc" was the killer app that persuaded me to buy a deck. I'd been toying with the idea for ages, but needed an excuse. And I needed to upgrade all my hifi equipment anyway, so I got a new MD deck, amp, CD player, radio tuner and turntable (all Sony) at the same time. Of course, I now get my money's worth out of the MD deck by swapping compilations with people, recording radio shows off satellite, etc. I'm even considering getting an MD player for my car -- cassette tapes are just becoming too cumbersome and annoying to use. -- Mark Stevens http://www.sonance.demon.co.uk/
