I guess the time is right: I would like to offer *free* Kumquat CD's to the IDM list...postage paid to anywhere in the world. **Before you make a request**, please read the entirety of this e-mail (and perhaps also check the website at http://www.thelocus.com/kumquat) to make sure that Kumquat sounds like a style of music you might enjoy (sample-haters be forewarned!) Style of music: funky, cut-and-paste sampladelica. A key concept behind the music involves matching the natural rhythms of human speech to the rhythms of beats. Majority of the sampling involves beat-matched speech phrases, married to a background of original music (minimal sampling of music). Grooves hard, some melodic content. The style is definitely way more towards the fun/funky Ninja Tune/Luke Vibert-y end of the IDM spectrum...so if you're primarily into stuff like minimal Berlin records, Autechre, or hard noise, this probably won't be your cup of tea (by the way, I do like those artists...just don't *sound* much like them). If Kumquat sounds interesting to you, just e-mail me off-list (to bigkumquat@aol.com) to request a free CD...include your snail mail address (I can't send you a CD without it). I will send out at least 50 postage-paid copies...and quite possibly many more than that, especially if you can give me some good reasons why you would like a CD. Examples of good reasons include: - I would consider reviewing Kumquat for my website or zine - I love sampladelica, it is my favorite thing in the universe - I simply kick butt in general (kick arse for those in the UK) - Other If you read this message late or in the digest, go ahead and send e-mail anyway...I'll set aside some for you (I was a long-term digest reader before my current active phase on the list). For more musical reference points and quotes from reviews, please consult the Kumquat website at http://www.thelocus.com/kumquat Thanks for the time and bandwidth. - Fred Church bigkumquat@aol.com

Alright, I'll bite. But my reason is that I like wearing spaghetti and dancing to Tone Loc every Tuesday from 5-7 pm. That and my girlfriend likes Mariah Carey. No, wait a minute, that was for therapist. Oh, the real reason I would dig Big Kumquat is that I have a soft spot for citrus from the Orient. Especially when it washes the stuck spaghetti out of my hair. And I'm interested to see if your recording has a "message" or order behind it ('cos I feel that that is where the true potential of verbal sampling lies). My address (unless you want to leave me broken-hearted and struck with a general inability to .. well, nevermind): J McPherson 10502 Stein Drive River Ridge, LA 70123-1321 USA Free postage seems overly gratuitous to me (you're going to ruin this list's long-standing history of being filled with grouchy old sods!), so let me at least pay postage ... send me your address and I'll mail out some stamps/envelope J "No rose without a thorn.
