I have one single that is really good by them, and it had tracks from the Entelechy lp. In 96, I asked Germ's Tim Wright for info on what he was working on and he'd mentioned Roupe (remixed on the ep and full-length cd) and I found it pretty nice stuff, though really hard to find (is Resource Rec still around?). I like the full-length cd on Resource (from NY) label, though the EP does cover the main highlights of the cd. Roupe has recorded for some other label before these releases, but I can't remember the name, I just remember that Germ recorded as Pin. Roupe's programming is really smooooth; the Dot EP has more of a Herbie Hancock funk sound -- more straightforward beats. Solenoid On Tue, 8 Jun 1999, Will Samuels wrote:

There was a Roupe album called Strom on the Input Neuron Musique label back in 94-95 but it was more in the abstract techno vein, ala Nev or early Germ releases. I had this album at one time but sold it some years ago. I would imagine it's quite hard to find with the problems that GPR had in the past with distribution. FYI: Input Neuron Musique was the techno sublabel of GPR that also featured solid lps by Russ Gabriel and Morganistic (aka Luke Slater). Other Roupe appearances: . Endlessnessism comp 2xcd (Dot) . Invasion of the Dot Knights! comp cd (P Vine-Japan) . Roupe: Transport Solutions 12" (Dot) -->-Lance--- mclance@nacs.net lance@inaudible.com p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states

Yeah, I guessed it was BoC straight away. The two SBA tracks I'm guessing are the two fillers at the end of each side. The Chaos AD is easy to spot, what with the 'Come On My Selector' samples. The Gescom track is a bit elusive though. My personal hunch is that it's the one following 'Midas Touch', with the robotic vocoder. Sidestepping into the politics. I can understand Fakesch's frustration with Skam for running off with the Mask concept, but I wouldn't go as far to say that Masks 300-500 are shit. Well, I haven't got Mask200, so I can't comment, but there's some pretty nifty stuff on Mask400 and Mask500. Some crap stuff too, but not worth a complete slagging off. -- Mark Stevens http://www.sonance.demon.co.uk/

I'm a bit amazed no one mentioned the PJ of s://kimo mailorder conducted a "give-away" of the Mask 500 record. Thats right it is being sent FREE to anyone who has purchased regularly from him (something like 10 orders in 12 months) and who ASKED by emailing him at exactly 7:00pm last Friday. Very simple, very unpretenious, very cool. I can't imagine any other mailorder giving an item like this away. Tends to develop loyalty though...... Mask 500...was very available wkm

Hey, Ambientidm: You might want to ask the people at The Mask Corportation to start telling us who does each track on the records, instead of saying "in no particular order" on the record label. Personally, I want to know who did the original of the song between "midas touch" and "boogie down bronx." That's annoying me. .Bil. ich|bin|ein|kopieier

On my copy, Midas Touch and Boogie Down Bronx are right next to each other. Do you mean the one before Midas Touch? I've no idea what the original is -- the fucked-up vocal sample sounds familiar, but I can't quite place it. Hi, I'm a dumbass: What I meant was what's AFTER "Boogie Down Bronx" (by Man "You'll never see me in the welfare line" Parrish) which is the fifth mp3, but the 6th actual track (whoever made the mp3s screwed up and stuck the 4th and 5th tracks together.) It really is keeping me up at night, really. :) The one before "Midas Touch" is "Ashes to Ashes" by David Bowie, listen to it now and it will seem really obvious, it even has the synth parts in it :) .Bil. ich|bin|ein|kopieier

I remember it got badly panned by the purists (ahem!) when it came out, but I am really really enjoying it (thanks to whoever encoded the MP3's - wonderful to have them - gushing gratitude). I'm curious as to who does the vocal track (no 3) Midas Touch - please, if anybody has t/listing ideas matching names to tracks, don't post them to each other privately, let us all see. Further mystery of course is who the actual artists are behind these names (Hakan Lidbo? D-Breeze? SBA? etc ... it's all very gnostic). I *

I seem to recall someone mentioning that the MP3 version of MASK 500 that was up on the late, lamented Bleep Bloop server had two tracks from the record combined into one MP3 file. Does anyone know offhand which file it might be that had the problem? Just a listing of participating artists in NO PARTICULAR ORDER: Hakan Lidbo D-Breeze Post SBZ Gescom Hell Interface jacobean Anodyne Chaos AD It is suggested that BoC/Hell Interface are responsible for the sublime Midas Touch.
