Ttochshagg Forfib asked me to forward>> ---------- From: "scott haggart" <ttocshagg@diskono.fsnet.co.uk> To: missy@itsdifferentforgirls.com Subject: Hello missy/friend of ROOK! Date: Tue, Apr 25, 2000, 15:56 Hello from ttocshagg forfib. As one one of the evil diskonoists i feel the need to reply to you in person. First i feel Dr Barnes Advocaat has been genuine all along towards all artists concerned in releasing through diskono. Dr Barnes said he posted copies of the 7" to Rook. It's no excuse but we can't 100% rely in transatlantic postal mythology, it sucks! If Rook never received the records why didn't he get in contact at the time when we could have done something about it. There are no copies left now you see.. Why could you not have discussed things with us/hardly communication i think using us as your template for royalty debates/discussions. It makes me angry to think of how loose you use the diskono/royalty/profit subject. I work 5/6 days a week to finance and push forward various artists and events that diskono organize/release. No money has been made at all on these first diskono releases. To say there's loads of cash to be made releasing records the way we do it is ludicrous. It's only now that were starting to find our feet dealing with various distributers and how they deal with people like ourselves. We have stuck our asses on the line to promote various artists and to express jointly through music etc various ways and ideas. As time moves on we've been getting the chance more and more to work with artists ie inviting them to play in Scotland at our Verbrechen events. People such as Opopop/Felix kubin/Lucky Kitchen and Antenna Farm have had the chance to see it more from the inside. Were far from chancers and dedicate every moment to our diskono idea[s]. We promote all the artists involved with diskono way beyond even our own releases/events. We don't just release music. There's a lot more involved>flights/accommodation/hospitality/cooking/promotion of events/posting of materials ie records/CDs overseas/hire of vehicles to cart guests around as well as arranging fair payment in context of any releases on diskono. This is not the half of it! As far as i know Rook has been contacted in respect of the "naked and alone" CD. As for payment of the first release i'm under the impression Rook had received copies via mail from Dr Barnes. Is Dr Barnes a nasty crook you make him out to be!? Are diskono the crooks you make them out to be!? Am i a crook!? Now we know unfortunately that Rook never received if this is true the first release, we can maybe organize some other way or means of crediting him. First we must make contact with Rook on the authenticity of your public statement. Note also/ the "naked and alone" CD is a piece to express the past and current influence of diskono. The CD introduces our influence via documentation/live improvisation and combines some previous releases as well as new inspired tracks from various artists and of course material that we liked but never had cash/time to release. All the above combined is our effort at making misunderstandings and artist grievances put right. There is a process involved producing/releasing any form of music so for fucks sake give the fucking thing some breathing space. We don't make a bean at this and oppose all nazi fucks who think music on this scale equals cash and can be achieved by having just cash for pointless exhibition. It would be so easy for us if we did have limitless amounts of cash to release as we pleased... NEVER EAT THE APPLES OFF THAT THERES TREE OVER THERE ADAM!med.. And it came to pass, as he spake these things, a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice, and said unto them, Blessed is the womb that bare thee, and the paps which though hast sucked. soon>ttocshagg forfib ---------- From: "joel" <ongthorne@onoksid.fsnet.co.uk> To: ttocshit <ttocshagg@diskono.fsnet.co.uk> Subject: <no subject> Date: Wed, Apr 26, 2000, 20:02 ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 24 Apr 2000 13:05:51 +0100 To: idm@hyperreal.org From: Missy <missy@itsdifferentforgirls.com> Cc: "------------" <lis_n58@onoksid.freeserve.co.uk> Subject: Re: [idm] Chris Douglas, a.k.a. As a friend of OST, I would just like to point a few things out about your post Docktor barnes. Firstly Diskono never paid Chris any money for the track that you are refering to. The fact that you A) Never paid him for the track and never paid him any royalties is completely out of order and B) the fact that you are going to release it again, and still have made no effort to pay him any money is actually very fucking shameful. If you intend to re-release this track on _any_ complilation you had better ask A) Chris's permission and B) Make some finanical contribution towards its use on your complition to him. The reason I write this post is that I know many musicians that are being ripped off left right and centre by Labels that claim to be so 'into' the music that they put out. I cannot begin to express my anger at Labels like diskono. There is a lot of money to be made putting records out. Especially now that the whole 'IDM' scene has kicked off in the USA. Unfortunatly in my experince (I have worked for labels and for managers and for club promoters) many of the people who control the 'scene' are total crooks. Artists like OST get ripped off left right and centre. 'Oh come play at our gig' promoters say, the artists plays and at the end of the night the promoters give the artists a bullshit excuse and don't pay them, 'Oh put a record out on our label' says the record label. The record goes out and sells 100's put the artist only gets =A350 and never sees any royalites. I a= m sick and tired of seeing the way in which hard working talented people get ripped off in this 'scene', so hence this post. So when labels like Diskono have the cheek to put out tracks that they haven't paid the artist for and still make money out of makes me sick. Very upset missyx ------------------------------
