Recorenews, vol 4 ------------------------------------------ Two new Star76 releases are due for release. Here's that the press clippings say: . Ectomorph: Destroy Your Powercenters 12'" (IT 13) Ectomorph have come to destroy your powercenters. The inequities of this system must be leveled. The power balance in your universe is wrong. We have come to right your many millennia of corrupt behavior. Our robots will destroy your way of life. Ectomorph first appeared via Interdimensional Transmissions debut release in 1995. They have materialized in many forms since then and continue to document these progressions in their latest ep, Destroy Your Powercenters. Ectomorph functions as a collective with ever changing members and nameless contributers revolving around main conduit Brendan M Gillen. Ectomorph exists ad an amplified id with the goal of conjuring pure forms of electronic funk to s(t)imulate your mind & body. With the knowledge that thought it electrical, this ep is the ultimate realization of the conecpt of electronic music as an organism, since electrical impulses trigger both the mind and the synthesizer. these concepts are made flesh through the music and their manifestion into vinyl. Tracks w/ comments: a1. subversion/subversion (dub) - recorded at ketalonia lakes studios, outside of miami. mastered using concentric parallax grooves by nsc. a powerful new sound. a2. (we have come to) destroy your powercenters (beats) - a neurotic empowerment beat. performed versions feature live bassline. b1. only in shadows - a new approach to abstract funk with special guest john ryan. dedicated to jaques tourneur and arthur russell. b2. slither - birth of a planet. recorded live to 2 track. this is the instrumental version. features vocals when performed live. . Odd Jobs remix 12" (Schematic) The Odd Job 12" is the latest addition to the Schematic product line. Rebuilt by Soul Oddity around the sophicated Phoenecia version, this 12" combines power and rhythmic innovation to make any dancefloor compatible with the latest technology. The Odd Job 12" requires only a single expansion slot; your mind. It can be easily installed using ordinary tools. Odd Job can handle twice the load of a conventional record in one-quarter the time. Odd jobs comes complete with an external communications port that makes dancing convenient and easy. But that's not all, in July expect the Odd Jobs 12" and a cd with revisions by Autechre, Richard Devine, Ectomorph, Push Button Objects, and Takeshi Muto. ------------------------------------------ Get ready for Transit... I received my finished copy of the first record on the new columbus-based Transit label. This first ep, called Vehicle by Myungho Choi, is an excellent 5-tracker of driving tech-house not unlike some of the swedish stuff and/or ferox label output. The next Transit release is another ep by Myungho Choi called Passenger. The Passenger ep contains four tracks and is a little darker and harder than the Vehicle ep . It reminding me of Claude Young's releases on the Elypsia label - which is a very good thing in my opinion. Slated for release next month is a third Myungho Choi ep called Driver. I'll post comments on that one whenever i hear it. Suffice to say though, Columbus Ohio never ceases to disappoint when it comes to quality techno. For more info on the Transit label or RA clips of the Myungho Choi releases check their website at: www.transitrecords.com/ ------------------------------------------ A classic found... Finally got ahold of Mark Broom's classic Backroom ep on his short lived 3Zone label (big thanks to Thomas Robbs for this one). For those who havent heard it, it's three tracks of classic ifach/pure plastic-style abstract techno from back in 92-93. Classic! ------------------------------------------ PSI49NET news... Anthony Rother's PSI49NET label is gearing up for a new release. Later this month PSI49NET will release his "Dont Stop the Beat" ep. With this record Anthony Rother deliver us "the" fusion of Electro and Techno. Grooves which sounds like the C64, dark string-chords, and the typical Rother Vocoder packed in one unit. PSI49NET Discography: . Anthony Rother: Trans Europa Express 12" (PSI49NET 01) . The Little Computer People Project: Little Computer People 12" (PSI49NET 02) . Anthony Rother: Don't stop the beat 12" (PSI49NET 03) For soundclips or more info on PSI49NET check out the official website at: http://members.xoom.com/psi49net ------------------------------------------ Kid606 non-stop! Kid606 has a brand new 7" featuring four tracks of vicious (yet also a tad humourous:) abrasive jungle on boston's wabana label as the third installment of there GUNCOURT 7" series. look out for future guncourt 7"s by DJ skud, alec empire, fat city and more the first two by the brainbombs and adam and his package are already sold out so buy, buy, buy! contact surefire@tiac.net for more info. Kid 606 also has a new releases out on the 555 and Vinyl Communications labels. The 555 label lp, called "GQ on the EQ," is a six tracker of abstract electronica and harsh beats. The Vinyl Comm ep, called "Dubplatestyle," contains remixes of tracks from his Dont Sweat the Technics album by Lexaunculpt and Matmos plus several new tracks and a dozen or so crazy lock grooves. As with all k606 material, tons of listening fun if your ears & tastes are strong enough! ------------------------------------------ Thug news: Been meaning to comment on this one for some time now.... The new Thug cd, Isolated Rhythm Clock, on Aural Industries has been in constant rotation in my cd player for several weeks now and it still sounds as fresh as it did the day i first got it. I'll be posting a full review in a few days but, in brief, it combines a more percussive sound with more standard idm melodies & structures. Very good! Here's what the press releases says: Thug is the sonically menacing alter ego of Tim Koch a 23 year old Adelaide University student, who has just completed three years of Music Technology at the Uni's P.A.T.U recording studio. Fascinated by 8-bit computer game soundtracks at an early age, Tim began experimenting with music and eventually began playing bass and drums in local bands. Considerably influenced by the more 'English' type eclectic electronica of the last decade, Tim began sequencing his own tracks with synths and drum machines. Tim has appeared on New York Label Lucky Kitchen's "Blip Bleep, Soundtracks to Imaginary Video Games" compilation and Negativland's label Seeland's "Extracted Celluloid" compilation. Tim's first independent release is the mini- album entitled "Isolated Rhythm Chock" out now on new Sydney based experimental electronic music label Aural Industries under his Thug alter ego. It’s been described in the fortnightly ‘Perilous’ column in 3D World, Issue 445, 5th April 99, as “nine tracks that inhabit a space between the rhythmic complexities of Autechre and the reminiscent melodies of Boards of Canada”. A successful launch party for the release was held on the 18th April at Frigid, The Globe, Newtown… with punters coming up and commenting on how great the music was and how it was about time somebody in Australia starting pioneering an experimental electronic sound. ------------------------------------------ Another experimental remix extravaganza... Vicki Bennet, known around the world as People Like Us, will be releasing a cd of People Like Us remixes on the Staalplaat/Soleilmoon labels. This remix album will contain remixes by Rehberg & Bauer, Christophe Heemann, Bruce Gilbert, Mika Vainio, Venoz [TKS], Felix Kubin, Req One, Katy Brown, Cyclobe (who are Simon Norris -- ex Death in June and Steve Thrower -- ex Coil), Negativland, Xper. Xr., Dr. P-Li Khan (ex HNAS), Death in June, Stock, Hausen & Walkman, Boyd Rice, Coil, Mr Rotorvator, Barbed, Sniper, Andy Votel, V/Vm, Dummy Run, and Sons of Silence. ------------------------------------------ New from the Underscore label... The shift-minus vinyl series (part 1). yes, kids, underscore is doing vinyl and it shall be in your hands as early june/july, depending on the speediness of ye olde pressing plant. Shift- Minus is a series of 10 split 7"s, each one featuring an exclusive new track by an up & coming idm innovator, and on the reverse side, a remix of one of that artist's older tracks by the next artist in the series... the first record features a funky new tune by Cex and a remix of "at least one passenger..." by Colongib. The second record features a hot new Colongib tune, and a remix of the track "Bavarian Creme Pie" off the kfive000 demo tape by troublemaker Kid606. the third 7" has Kid606 doing his sonic-decimator thing on Side A, and baltimore native and schizophrenic Chris Coady remixing the track "Silver Egg" off the 'Don't Sweat' cd on the Side B. you will see 2 of the first 3 records later this summer, trust me. for more info on the activities of Underscore check our website at: www.gl.umbc.edu/~nworth1 ------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------ btw: if there are any artists, labels, or distributers who would like their new music information included in this regular series feel free e-mail me privately at lance@inaudible.com -->-Lance--- mclance@nacs.net lance@inaudible.com p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states

The Soleilmoon will only feature half of those reviews as it'll be a single CD. The Staalplaat version, on the other hand, will be a 2CD set and feature all remixes. Unfortunately neither are scheduled for release until August or something like that. And on that note, if anyone can help me find the now sold out Kleptones releases by PLU, I'd appreciate it. caught 'people like us' in SF a month or so ago. twas not familiar with her sound prior. tres bizarro stuff. live show driven largely off of custom sample CDRs and some keyboard melodies. kind of like a bastard child of negativland and ween on some tainted mescaline. eric hill proved his cred by trainspotting all the 80's hits which they manipulated: true classics like quiet riot, eye of the tiger, wang chung, europe: final countdown, etc. i would imagine the remixes are equally strange. np: drexciya: jiu-jitsu peeeeeeeece, -- Jeff Davis pHlow@earthlink.net fn:216.533.6303 fx:216.266.2310 text:2165336303@mobile.att.net pHlow.linx: home.earthlink.net/~phlow/ Bochum Welt: www.bochumwelt.com Rotator Locator: hyperreal.org/music/rotator/
