Just wanted to know what others think about this cd. I really like it. To me it sounds like a combination of Funkstorung, Bomb 20, Twisted Science, and Public Energy Energy #1 all rolled into one. The rhythms are more hip-hoppish, funkier, darker, and more DHR-distorted sounding than Public Energy #1. The groove factor is also much higher than PE, so that djs will definitely get some use out of the vinyl release. Maybe too slow for the dancefloor, but perfect for any head-bobbing crowds whether they're into idm or not. Overall, it sounds just a little bit more accessible than Public Energy without compromising any artistry. A very solid release IMO that will make my top ten list this year. Concerning Speedy J, this artist really snuck up on me. I didn't know that I was such a huge fan of his work until I bought Shocking Hobby and realized that I owned quite a few of his cds (including his various eps and FAX titles). It wasn't intentional. I would just check out something with his name on it, like it tremendously, and buy it. Maybe it's because he didn't have an ep out every 6 months that I didn't notice. Anyway, does anybody know where I can find Ginger, G-Spot, and the Speedy J mix cd for the X-Mix series? Not willing to spend the $30 for Ginger that I've seen at various websites. I"m also looking for any Speedy J articles or interviews on the web. Thanks! -- shephrd@earthlink.net | "...thita NK;" "...mechanically reclaimed by autechre..." I try to buy most of my U.K. imports (I'm in the U.S.) from www.yalplay.com . They are very reliable and inform you when they get your order and also when it ships, which is usually 2 days after you order. I'd also recommend you get on their mailing list for update so you know when they have their free shipping (yes to the U.S. also) deal going. They have a few Speedy J cds at decent prices. ,Dave n.p. I remember a long time ago when my friend recorded an episode of Mtv's Amp for me because I had never seen it. The very first video was some four on the floor techno by Speedy J and it said the lp was an X-Mix. Really cool video that I haven't seen since, but the beat was so catchy and hypnotic that I can still remember it clearly. However, I've looked for it everywhere and have never been able to track it down. Does anybody know where a Speedy J discography is, so that we can find out if it even exists? Could this be "Pepper"? It's on Hawtin/Acquaviva's X-Mix-3... I'm pretty sure there isn't a Speedy J volume in the X-Mix series. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

This (EXTREMELY WONDERFUL) track is also included on a compilation out on Wigwam Records titled "Trancemitter" which was released round about '95. Complete with celestial choir :-) Michael Shepherd wrote:

Pepper *is* hypnotic, yes - very much so, but not necessarily 4x4 or even 'catchy'. It's a long track that swoops in and out of beats with an early trance feel to it. As far as I know there is no Speedy J volume in the X-Mix series. The track you are looking for is probably Pepper, a track used in the John Acquaviva/ Richie Hawtin X-Mix volume. If you are looking for a complete Speedy J discography, then check out: www.speedyj.org For those who are looking for that elusive G-Spot, I do have a rare white label vinyl LP which I am prepared to release to serious offers only. Please contact me offlist if you are interested.
