has anyone received their copy of 'additional productions' from music
boulevard? (err... CD NOW) i pre-ordered the damn thing two months ago
and my order is still being 'processed.'
for those who are seeing jake mandell in NYC this sunday, please post a
review. (music, gear / software, conversation...) can't make it to the
show damnit!
after scrolling through the past few digests, i have a few comments...
tom jenkinson is pretty good, but he's not a 'god.' (yes, we all love
music here, so you don't have to explain your 'passion.' it's pretty
obvious that this list is mainly composed of people who would spend
their last dime on a decent CD or Vinyl... and have too much free time
at work to goof around on lists like these..)
fsck kicks ass. farmers manual is, and will always be innovative. (and
their website is actually featured in a semi-recent book about
interesting website design.. thanks to the incredible talent of tina
frank / skot) however, if you don't like it, that says absolutely
nothing about your musical 'taste.' [danny t, if you're reading this,
please send me your mailing address. your CDs are ready..] check out
orchester 33 1/3 for some pretty nifty sounds as well. (rhiz is a
splendid label..) oh yeah, general magic. don't know why they're not
mentioned too often on this list. 'frantz' has to be one of the best
CDs on the MEGO label.
point being... don't 'buy' into the myth that you have to reach another
'level' or plateau to appreciate a certain type of music. it's your
ears, your brain, and your choice. save the elitist crap for, ummm...
this list. hehe.. (sorry, i had to say that..) granted, a few listens
might change your mind (and one's musical palette does tend to expand
over time... or differ at least) so don't sell you new tunes just yet.
as for mr. aphex twin and autechre... well, i'll take aphex twin over
autechre. autechre's older material was wicked, but the new stuff is so
steril. (in a not so good type of way.. even though i'll pick up LP7
anyway..) i'm sure many will disagree, but that's how the world works.
and yeah, they sound kinda similar because they use the same software.
(and probably the same 'modules' within the code... i'm sworn to secrecy
on this one...) funkstorung might emulate, but they have their own
style which works quite well. yes, this subject has been beaten to
death, so i digress.
polynomials and coefficients make the world go round,
