These are the only four I've heard on your list and my personal opinion is that they are all pretty much essential albums. Get all four and you've got yourself a very nice assortment of electronic music indeed. My fave of those above would have to be Spatula Freak, one of the best thing Mike P has done?? A few more discoveries I have made recently are the Plasmalamp album on Worm Interface and The Remote Viewer album on 555 records. Plasmalamp's Void Travelling is excellent (its playing now!) with a whole range of tracks mostly veering towards the melodic side of things. Nice squelchy beats and eerie "whoooooooooos" going on in the background - get it now! The Remote Viewer LP is my kind of sound! I can spot influences by a whole range of artists and labels from the IDM spectrum including Ae, AFX, Mu-ziq, Skam and WI. Thats no bad thing though as the sounds are all taken to a different level. Again theres a range of tracks which is good, suits a wide range of moods then doesn't it? Anyone got any track info on this one? Like all good "undergound" labels there is very sparse info on the actual record. Nice info sheet though mentioning other releases, including one Kid 606 - IDM list member and purveyor of quality electronic music so I am told, not heard any of it though.... One thing David mentioned is the high price of Rephlex imports. Most of the Rephlex catalogue is available through Warp-Mart, is this not a cheaper way to get hold of their releases for those of you in the US? 11 uk pounds for an album which is $17.60 roughly and 4 uk pounds for a 12", $6.40. Not sure what the postage rates are though - just a thought... bye sge -----Original Message----- From: david turgeon <eerie@mnemonic.net> To: John Counts <polycyclicism@yahoo.com> Cc: idm@hyperreal.org <idm@hyperreal.org> Date: 17 May 1999 19:15 Subject: Re: (idm) Kindly Requesting Reviews

i'll throw in a few words for the releases i've heard (or own):
quoted 1 line Bogdan Raczynski- Boku Mo Wakaran> Bogdan Raczynski- Boku Mo Wakaran
i like it a lot, but some may find it boring/all-of-the-same, drill n bass by numbers. the sound of it is very enjoyable & not pretentious one bit, so that makes up for any afx-ripoff complaints this record may get. only problem: it's expensive as hell, because it's rephlex. there are only 1000 copies of the cd & 1000 of the vinyl so you may want to pick up either one, if you're nervous about them disappearing in the next week (though i doubt that'd happen so fast.)
quoted 1 line BlipBloop: Soundtracks For Imaginary Videogames> BlipBloop: Soundtracks For Imaginary Videogames
some of the tracks are amazing (colongib, hrvatski v blitter) & make me glad i have the cd, there are some known names who turn out interesting if not great tracks (mandell, v/vm, etc.) & all in all the concept works. lots of failed experiments, however, but the lucky kitchen-brand homemade feel it has more or less makes up for it. it's a little rare (i think there's less than 1000 copies pressed) but quite easy to find, although i think only napkin printed copies remain.
quoted 1 line 0161 compilation (Skam)> 0161 compilation (Skam)
lots of good, some forgettable, but all in all an enjoyable mix of skam-like electronics & v/vm-like noise madness. it has quite an all-star cast: gescom, bola, jega, plus the v/vm crew (don't ask me who's who though!) & pitchcadet kids yunx & datathief, to name the most obvious. i think it's worth having if only for the range of sounds found within. pretty easy to find these days.
quoted 1 line Global Goon- Cradle of History> Global Goon- Cradle of History
if you like afx's cheesiest moments, this is for you. i personally liked a lot of it, it has a lot of borderline silly tracks which are so good you can forgive the off-the-wallness. the vocal loops can get a bit tedious (a friend of mine mentioned the art of noise upon hearing them) but all in all this is quite a great thing to listen to. here again though, the rephlex price tag is the one turn-off i can think of. i've seen it a couple places, so i doubt it's considered rare. hope this helped. -- david turgeon at http://www.notype.com

You've been a tremendous help!! I am all about "the melodic side of things" and I am very intrigued by Remote Viewer and Plasmalamp. Are these releases available via online mail-order? This is the reason I turned to the list to find recommendations; I live in an area without access to underground or even above ground electronic music- the style of music I've pursued for about 6 years now. Anymore information would be appreciated! Thanks again!! John _____________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? (not a review, but who cares?) pretty nice album, but isn't this one getting just a little bit tedious after song number eleven or something? i mean - somewhere around twelve songs would have been enough - not twenty! but buy it, if you can. you should anyway listen to it. / thomas l
