Now, here is a corker. A copy of the new Beth Orton CD fell in my hands and I am enjoying it very much. I did a little research and in addition to recording with William Orbit, Andy Weatherall produced her first two albums. Can someone provide a review?

Okay, i though andy only produced about half of the tracks. All i have is her first (non-japan) album, "Trailer Park". If you've heard the Chembros releases, you know her voice (IMHO, the redeeming characteristic of both discs, nothing else even comes close). Great singer, pretty good lyrics. Mostly acoustic-folk with a slight Weatherall/Sabres ambience. Very nice, if you're into the vocal-guitar-music stuff. The last track (galaxy of emptiness?) is more Weatherall, a slow, quiet, dubby thing with her singing all through it. I find her stuff to be a nice meeting ground where "regular music" and "IDMish music" people can both enjoy, though it's definitely more regular. I've been meaning to pick up central reservation...(the newest) _________________________________ Adam Roesch / roesch@augsburg.edu Augsburg College / Minneapolis / MN / USA Visit my Fila Brazillia/Pork Recordings fan site: http://dogbert.augsburg.edu/~roesch/pork/ "The only disease we need in our blood is love" TRICKY

hi from the trailer park cd booklet: Tangent, Touch me with your love and I wish I never saw the sunshine* reproduced and mixed by Andrew Weatherall, engineered by Keith Tenniswood for Two Lone Swordsmen Productions at Sabersonic Studios. *the track name here seems to be a misprint. It should be Galaxy of Emptiness (track 11). This has been more or less confirmed. On a side note, this is perhaps one of the finest TLS songs (productions?) ever done. I have almost everything TLS has done and this is in my top 3 favorites. Also, Ali Friend (from Red Snapper) and Keith Tenniswood play on a few of the other tracks. Central reservation by Beth Orton is a much different beast that Trailer Park. Where Trailer Park was folk meets electronic, Central Reservation is pretty much folk (done very well). lastly, anyone heard the TLS remix on the the electronic single? Very nice. Sounds like it came from the Stay Down sessions. -daniel Head Monkey Mad Monkey Records http://monkey.eliteware.com

You mean Trailer Park? It has three Two Lone Swordsmen produced tracks on it, TLS being Weatherall / Tenniswood of course. The tracks are Tangent, Touch Me With Your Love and the last track Galaxy Of Emptiness. The whole album is excellent in a folky indie type of way but I found the TLS tracks to be the best. Very dubby and laidback, typical TLS really. There is a wealth of other TLS stuff out there inc about 30 odd mixes and lots of 12"s. Of course there are also the albums, 5th Mission is the one to get - absolute classic. Stay Down is alright too. graham "tls spotter"

I was only aware of one album, 'Trailer Park', before her latest. As with Ben Watts' presence on 'Central Reservation', Andy Weatherall's involvement is only on a couple of tunes, while the rest are in that acoustic rootsy style. From memory Keith Tenniswood is credited with keyboards on the Weatherall tracks, so I think you can count them as 2 Lone Swordsmen productions.. The sound is certainly comparable to mixes they were doing around that time. Quality wise, I had no real urge to get a copy of 'Trailer Park', but I do remember the above tracks as being some of the best. I'm intending to give it another listen based on how much I'm enjoying 'Central Reservation'. Of what? ...or which? There's also a really rare WO produced cd out there entitled "Superpinkymandy"...WO is supposed to redo some of the tracks from it and release it this Summer. I think "Trailer Park" is her best - better than Central Reservation. Quiet, acoustic, yet rich. A really lovely version of "She Cries Your Name" (with strings) is on it. jeff Rodney Perkins wrote:
