There is in fact structure, you will not enjoy his music the first time, squarepusher has been into his music for a while, nobody else can understand any sort of music right away if it is new to them, you must listen to it a few times to get it, to digest the music in the same way you digest a good book. For the record I agree with what you have said here. I have listened to the records in question a number of times and there is certainly an element of growing to like them more with each listen. I like the records. I don't think they're crap. I never said that I did. When I said I thought they showed promise I was perhaps not giving them the credit they deserve. Having said this I agree with the opinion expressed by someone before that an album constructed from the best parts of the two records - now there's an album!

Sounds like an attempt at "scat" singing, as was made particularly famous by Ella Fitzgerald. Hmmm... Now this is entertainment! I was thinking that Squarepusher should take this thread, have his computer read it, record that, mix in his lovely drum madness, toss in that bitchin bass and release a new track called "Reactions To I." You guys are having such a wonderful dialog! Really now... Anyone who has a hand in Improv oriented music knows about the dynamic chemistry that occurs when you perform on the outside, where structure emerges into new forms. Those forms can escalate into pieces of music unlike anything - this "anything" I speak of encompasses the whole spectrum. Any Deadhead out there can verify this (yes, my roots are now exposed! And yes I know others did this before them!). Maybe the performance Tom pulled out didn't match or surpass previous expeditions, but what matters is that he DOES this! He goes OUT THERE. Thus, the term "balls" - not what I would use to describe it, but I understood the person who stated this. It takes a lot to believe in yourself as a musician and artist to be able to let go and let the music seek the music. Most folks out there don't do this. So many perform the same songs the same way all the time.
