Here's just a track by track breakdown, maybe somebody else can expand on it. 1: Starts off with a soft, floaty tone for the first two minutes or so, various other elements are brought in and out for the rest of the track: nice bass tones, some high pitched tones, watery effects, etc. It's all about harmony. 2: Resonant synth noises...kind of dolphin-sounding, and a bit of a claustriphobic vibe. 3: Deep smooth bass and a moody keyboard line. It's slightly reminicent of Ae's "Yulquen," but better. Two minutes in, some nice chords appear, upping the melancholy factor a whole lot. 4: Short track, 3:41 of an "I-can-die-happy-now" sort of melody. Very pretty. 5: Similar to track 2, resonant pulses w/some background droning. 6: Opposite of track 5, resonant droning w/some background pulses. Semi-spooky harmonies. 7: Structured synths. Eleven minutes in, the main theme begins to gradually slow down, and by the time the track is over at 17 minutes, the individual notes have become pleasant, barely-there drones. In certain ways, this track reminds me of Cage's "Four Walls" This is a really nice album, nothing "groundbreaking" (whatever that means these days), but comfortable and enjoyable in its own way. Comparisons to SAWII are obvious, and this album is very similar, but more polished and with less of the occasional creepiness that shows up occasionally in the former. Highly recommended. -chris

any recommendations on similar releases with more-than-occasional creepiness? dark ambient is nice, but when it comes from the standard dark and scary guys, it gets boring and predictable. SAWII's dark bits are real nice cuz aphex is not of the dark-and-spooky camp. same goes for biosphere. * #### a disturbance in a system. #### laerm. @voicenet.com ##:# some roads are only seen at night/ghost roads - nothing but neon signs but some nights the neon gas gets free/and turns into walking dead like me icq:5562209

if it's dark and creepy that you're going for, look no further than Thomas Koner (of porter ricks fame) and his many releases on Mille Plateux. ahhh, so minimal and so beautiful. tomas
