sarcasm, i hope. the stuff he did when he was a writer was your average oldschool style. the stuff he does now for album artwork and such is not graffiti.

in quebec city there's a whole area under a highway (& another one in the lower city) where it is actually permitted to make graffiti. most of them kick some serious ass. looking at them, you wonder how such an aesthetical prowess can still be considered vandalism by some. & then pop stars like 3d (whatever his skills may be) get in museums for face value, mostly. i have yet to hear of a genuine graffiti artist get that kind of recognition. it's rant day today, i tell ya. -- david turgeon at http://www.notype.com

you can kind of count jean-michel basquiat in there. * #### a disturbance in a system. #### laerm. @voicenet.com ##:# some roads are only seen at night/ghost roads - nothing but neon signs but some nights the neon gas gets free/and turns into walking dead like me icq:5562209

Was walking through Deep Ellum last night, and there's a graffiti mural up on the back of one of the buildings down there that's really cool. It's a tornado scene, kinda "Twister" like, there's a cow getting sucked up and the letters in "Mooooo!" trailing behind. ;) There used to be this one on the drive home from Deep Ellum I loved to look at, but could only do it at 30 miles an hour. I always wanted to go down during the day one time and take a picture in front of it or something, but never got around to it. Hmm. Sonic Therapy promo pictures... cuz we are like rock stars or something.

What, Basquiat wasn't a genius?

areas like that exist here in toronto as well as other major cities around the world.

au contraire, mon ami. many writers get "art institution" recognition all the time. there are always gallery shows (http://www.graffiti.org/index/current.html) around the world that focus on this often misunderstood artform. it is, after all, the most original form of art since the birth of modernism. tomas http://www.graffiti.org/ger/

I thought someone like Malcom McClaren or Andy Warhol were the first to get some graffiti artist into a gallery in the 80s. Ok, i'm a little vague on that, but i remember a documentary about it definitely. -- Ben Coffer http://www.hybridgame.demon.co.uk/

really? i haven't heard of such a thing in montreal. then again, maybe you have to look around to find it. :) then again, my point was that making those areas legal improved the quality of the graffiti & therefore, oh whatever, you know.
