Any thoughts? I think Source Direct's new album is fairly substantial evidence (although granted I think it's pretty groovy). Is jungle dead? Seems like there are a few DJs out there still kickin' up shit with some older records, but there's nothing new out there.... the hype is over. I'm up for a house revival. Anyone with me? :) Aaron np: Kings of Tomorrow: Expansions '97 (Distance) Lonnie Liston Smith gets a reworking.... hehehe

Don't knock klezmer. In all seriousness, there is a connection between klezmer and house. 3

Hardly! The SD lp isn't really a good one to base any theories on, since most of it is extremely dated material. I have a feeling that things are going to change fairly soon, with the start being a massive backlash against the whole 2step/rez filter bass thing that's been going on for the last few years.

More and more jungle dj's/labels/artists are popping up every day. I still seem to be buying approximately five jungle releases to every one from other genres. And my girlfriend keeps on claming all of 'em as 'her' records, so I'm not even allowed to play them in public anyway.

The upcoming plug research vocal 12", called Voices in my Lunchbox Vol 1, not house at all. The ep consists of varying styles - from down- tempo triphop to scratchy-poppy experimental electronica to classic dub each utilizing vocals in a different way. I'm generally not a big fan of vocals but I really like way they are utilized on

Forgot to mention earlier... Volume 2 of the Voices in My Lunchbox comps sounds like it will be just as interesting featuring vocal tracks from: . Sluts, Stings & 909 . Chicks on Speed vs Potuznik & Bauer . Jamie Hodge . Ectomorph Not sure when this volume is due out though. -->-Lance--- mclance@nacs.net lance@inaudible.com p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states

I would hardly say jungle is over based on one lp. I think there is some quality stuff coming out from Ed Rush & Optical, Fierce, Ram Trilogy guys, Photek, and etc. I've read that the new Krust promo 12" is suppose to great. And the J Majik lp has some drum n bass heavyweights on it. Not to mention the highly anticipated lp from Matrix, and Dj Die. I think some wicked stuff is about to come out for summer.

House has been the most predominant music being played out anywhere i have been in the last 5 years. And there are 15-20 times more house releases coming out every week vs non house. Can it really get any bigger? And would anyone really want it to? I know it's probably just me, but I would rather hear the most futuristic alien sounding stuff vs very common traditional sounding stuff. I've recently been getting way more into minimal techno after taking a break from it. Still occasionally finding some awesome stuff, but you have to dig. _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get your free @yahoo.com address at http://mail.yahoo.com

Hmmm....while I'm waiting for the Aquasky to ship, I decided to spin a promo of the Hive record I've had laying around for a long time. Nothing groundbreaking, but this is a really NICE ride - lotsa fun. D-n-B with a Ninja-esque mentality; a lot of samples and beat change-ups. Add to that the new WE record and I'd then ask exactly what you mean by "dead". If you mean that the genre has been considerably sretched and trodden and maybe no longer can spew forth something un-heard of, then maybe. If you mean that nothing interesting or remotely buy-worthy grows in those fields, I'd respectfully disagree. jeff -- jeff "10,000 people all screaming the same thing at the same time are wrong, even if they're right." dancing/about/architecture "...with wandering steps and slow..." Klezmer is wedding/party music for dancing; it's frenetic, rhythmic with usually tight complex melody. Newer, experimental Klezmer would probably turn on lots of the IDM list folks (New Klezmer Trio is great modern bee-bop Jazzified Klezmer.) The old, conservational stuff is great too. olas clarke -----Original Message----- From: jeff salamon [mailto:kamandi@bga.com] Sent: Monday, April 26, 1999 9:10 AM To: Zenon M. Right-O. Even more directly, some klezmer even uses a rhythm which is surprisingly close to a house groove in sound and feel. 3
