Hi all-- I've been off the list for a few weeks, so please excuse me if any of these topics have been discussed as of late. I recently purchased a copy of Le Gooster's 'Zig Zag Zen' and noticed that it was a 5 Star Recording. Something vague clicked in my memory with that label name, but I can't remember what it would've been. Anyone got some more info on them or what they've put out of quality that might be logged somewhere within the depths of my memory? Also, Shadow is the distributor for them, yes? And for Ninja Tune USA? Speaking of Ninja Tune USA, I dug out my Funki Porcini "Hed Phone Sex" disc and gave it a whirl for the first time in a couple of months. "Strip-Hop," indeed. =) I'm curious if anyone has any general-type info on F.P., as in...who the hell is it and where do they come from and is there anything else by them/he/she/it that is worth my hard- earned money? The sleeve is sketchy and confusing at best (if not terribly amusing), so any help anyone could give me on straightening me out about these topics would be much appreciated. Finally, a copy of a Warp Elektoids cd has been hanging around in the local used bin for a few months...worth my time? You tell me. Many thanks! I think that Funki Porcini is really Aphex Twin, in disguise - of course... no one else could be saucy 'nuff to call an album "Hed Phone Sex".. Dead give-away.. e Ernesto Ikerd, (817) 763-4795 Company Graphics, Dept 17, MZ-1156 Lockheed Martin Tactical Aircraft Systems Fort Worth, Texas

shadow distributed early ninja tune releases (such as "hed phone sex", incidentally) but now ninja tune has its own north american home in montreal, canada.

funki porcini is one guy, & although hed phone sex has to be his best album, his other 2 full-lenghters, "love, pussycats & carwrecks" & the all-new "the ultimately empty million pounds" are worth your money. there's an interview with him on the ambientsoho site... http://www.ambientsoho.com ... doesn't seem to be picking up right now but it usually does. my favorite quote about hed phone sex comes from some fellow who once commented, "it's good, but it feels weird listening to this alone." -- david turgeon at http://www.notype.com

The Elektroids album is incredible album of electro that is well worth owning. And it's rumoured to be the work of the now defunkt Drexciya from Detroit. Will appeal to fans of electro and idm, i'd say "buy it" :) andrew Lauren Olson wrote:

Next stop would be "Love Pussycats & Carwrecks". I haven't heard the new album, but I'm guessing it's excellent. There's an EP called "Let's See What Carmen Can Do", and a single called "Carwreck", which I think has only one new FP track and some good remixes by others, and then there's a 3-track vinyl only EP called "FP vs. Jerry Van Roon", or something like that. There's a new single called "Rocket Soul", which has two tracks not on the new album. There's a track on "Endlessism", and some other various and sundry remixes. I believe he was half of Nine Lazy Nine, an early Ninja Tune artist. In his live DJ sets, he seems to have a penchant for alternating between drum&bass & weird old skating-rink style organ records.

Very fun Kraftwerk-inspired electro. I like it. Che

Hey All We (Ninja Tune) had a licensing deal with Instinct/Shadow for approximatly 3 years. ZEN24 was the last release they did for us. Everything after that is handled by our U.S/Canada domestic Ninja office. Shadows relentless caning of our back catalog on various cash-in compilations makes the matter confusing, but don't be fooled, you're not getting anything new. Funki is one James Braddell. He was also one half of Ninja act 9 Lazy 9. As Funki he has released 3 full length records ('Hed Phone Sex', 'Love Pussycats & Carwrecks', and 'The Ultimatly Empty Million Pounds') and various e.ps and singles. Take Care Jeff
