Really really been digging a lot of newer latin/breakbeat/trip-hop tunes that have been coming out of Germany (for the most part) lately. That whole Jazzanova/Compost/Tribes of da Underground sound is what I've been listening to and I'm looking for more. Recommendations welcome. More specifically, anyone heard of anything by Extended Spirit ("Solid Water" EP?) that they can vouch for? Here are a few that haven't left my decks in a while, hopefully they'll give you an idea of what I mean: - "New Latinaires Vol. 3" Jazzanova rmx. (Ubiquity) - Marcel "On the Beach" 12" (Soma) - Ian Pooley "What's Your Number?" Jazzanova rmx. (V2) - DJ Matsuoka "The Will of Life" 12" (Jazzanova/Compost) - Chaser "Game On!" LP (Soma) - "Tribes of da Underground Vol. 4" LP comp. (Infracom) More things in this vein? Electronic yet organic, latin-tinged? Thanks yet again...Brock Last question - anyone know who Michael Rutten and Soulpatrol are? He compiled the Tribes of Da Underground comp. but I didn't know if he was just a DJ/producer/label guy or what? Writing a review and wanted my facts straight. End. ____________________________________ Brock Phillips - bphil@email.unc.edu WXYC 89.3 FM The New Science Experience Tune in every Sunday night 10-12 AM EST http://www.wxyc.org for live RA broadcast Promos, demos, etc. welcome for submission Email for postal address and details... You can have a look at my Jazzanova/Sonar Kollektiv hp at http://user.cs.tu-berlin.de/~seher/SonarKollektiv/ for infos on other releases by them.

The "Solid Water EP" is great. Buy now. Or wait for the CD made of (some of) the tracks from "Solid Water", "Solid Water remixes" plus exclusive (?) track "Illicitz pt. 2". Extended Spirit are going to release another 12" called "Caprice" soon, and my Sonar Kollektiv contact (oh man, I loved to say something like that for a looooong time :-) told me that this will be great. There's also a new 2x12" with remixes by Rainer Trueby Trio, Megashira, ... out now.

Bel Air / Beatless may be what you're looking for. I personally love Kosma's work on INFRAcom! (btw, he's my contact :-).

From what I know Soulpatrol is a DJ from Germany (somewhere in the West, don't know exactly where). He may also be a producer. As much as I know he's not directly connected with the INFRAcom! label - but what do I know :-) Bye Sebastian PS: Does anybody know a mailing list that's based on that kind of music (K&D, Jazzanova, Kosma, Rainer Trueby Trio, ...) ? -- Sebastian Herrfurth (seher@cs.tu-berlin.de) pages for Bernd Friedmann / Riz Maslen / Daniel Meier / DJ Krush / ... at http://user.cs.tu-berlin.de/~seher/music.html

Funny you ask...just got some great advance copies right in this genre...really cool is King Kooba "Enter the Throne" on Second Skin and Rootdown 99, a comp by Rainer Truby, on Nuphonic...wait, just noticed "Extended Spirit" is the first track on that comp...maybe you are talking about this? darren Brock Phillips wrote:
