The fourth release from Vertical Form sees the second and concluding
part of the ŒSummer¹ project which includes stunning reworks by
Berlin¹s Arovane and London based Nick Rapaccioli. With both the
original and the Vladislav Delay re-work (feat on VFORM003), taking
things quite possibly as deep and as fresh as they could go. The
idea of putting together a second collection of mixes was to seek
out and research a whole new direction on the project by draughting
in an additional two artists operating in closely linked, yet
entirely different creative circles.
In doing so, the production direction was able to further explore
both the blissed and melodic arrangements of the original, and to
delve deeper into the sound and groove research side of the project.
Through these additional ventures the project also gave the
selected production artists an opportunity to explore and exploit
their own sound in a format without any creative restrictions
whatsoever.
As with the Vladislav Delay re-work, absolutely no sound sources,
samples or sequences were provided to either of the involved parties
and the mixes were produced entirely as each of the artists own
interpretation of certain thought provoking elements of the
original. With this in mind, production was approached entirely by
carefully drawing upon and redefining selected reference points of
the original groove, thus providing a starting point for the chosen
artists to recreate detailed sequences and arrangements in their own
distinguished style and format.
On the Œa¹ side, Arovane applies his trademark electronic trickery
to the mix, completely reinventing the original and producing quite
simply, classic results. As with many of his productions and
remixes emphasis is based heavily around the use of strong melodies
and deep moving atmospherics, this piece being no exception. In
doing so, production is approached by carefully picking up on
particular melodies present in the original and by completely
rebuilding the rhythmic mechanics of the groove. With structure and
form in place, an inspiring selection of heart moving chords,
strings and melodies are played over an endless groove with the
final outcome evolving into nothing short of electronic perfection.
The Œb¹ side of the project sees Vertical Form regular Nick
Rapaccioli simultaneously redefine and restructure the ŒSummer¹
sound in an equally fresh and inspiring direction. Using his
signature style manipulative production techniques, a whole new
groove is written and created entirely from his own vision of the
original in a differing context. The outcome is an entirely
different take on the project, with the results being a much deeper,
more diverse and conceptual arrangement which will undoubtedly
appeal to anyone with an interest in the mechanics and new direction
of modern electronic music. At the same time, this production
should also most certainly confirm his sound a place in today¹s
premier league of electronic recording artists.
