Jeff - Ditto on everything you said, this album is nice. If you like this one, I'd try to score the DJ Vadim vs. Primecuts mixtape, "Architects of the Great". It's on either Jazz Fudge or K'boro, mail order from them or Riouxs Records (sorry, don't have their email on me at the moment) had copies not too long ago. More vocal than the album but that same stripped-down hip-hop feel with really bizarre samples and whatnot. I haven't heard it myself but there's a compilation called "Sculptured and Broken Sound" that Vadim did that's probably equally good. Anything on Jazz Fudge or K'boro (Vadim's labels) are most likely a safe bet. And check out the DJ Krush half of the Coldkrushkuts Double CD on Ninja Tune, it has the same drowsy slo-mo breaks feel with subtle scratching that you seem to dig (and I think at least three or four of the cuts are Vadim himself mixed by Krush). _Sculpture and Broken Sound_ is a very solid album. Some forgettable tracks, but mostly solid chunks of musique concrete/hip-hop from the UK and Japan. Part 2's "Prelude to Cycle 6" is one of the best tracks I heard last year (also featured on Vadim/Prime Cuts mix CD in DJ magazine). I picked my copy up as a Japanese import ... did it ever get released in the UK? And speaking of which, has anybody got the Ruf Neck Piano album? I see it available from time to time, but as a Japanese import with no liner notes ... _Organised Sound_ is probably a better place to start. It's a Jazz Fudge release filled with standout tunes. Vadim, Ice vs. Palace, New Flesh 4 Old, Mark B (remixed by the Underdog!), and Skull all turn in fantastic cuts. Lewis Parker even turns up on two. And with awesome cover art! It must be a special kinda skill ... K'Boro has a couple releases so far, all I think with Mark B on them. Now if only he could find a few good MC's. laerm: the album is out september 14. it's called ussr: life from the other side. 25 cuts on cd and double vinyl. plenty of guest djs and vocalists. i played 2 cuts in part 1 of Andrew duke's in the mix show 588. should be hooked up and online with tracklisting later tonight time permitting. hope this helps. andrew duke :) laerm wrote:
