Hi there list peoples! Review for you. Last night, Sunday the 18th of April, Frigid (excellent electronic chill-out type club in Sydney) was treated to a live performance from Thug, aka Tim Koch from Adelaide. Tim would be known to people from his track on the Lucky Kitchen comp Blip, Bleep (or is it Bleep, Blip? Not in front of me right now... Great comp.) Last night he was launching his new album on Aural Industries (= AI, new Sydney electronic label, run by another listmember, John turbo@zip.com.au). The quality of the music was fantastic, well in-keeping with similar international artists. Not sure what comparisons could be made, but perhaps a slighty less drum'n'bass-y Jake Mandell (although some of the beats were a bit d'n'b), slighty less ambient SKAM type stuff, older Rephlex or Warp (yes, such as the AI series) and so on. The melodies and harmonies were spot-on, and the beats never too repetitive or simple. A good mixture of the weirded-out experimental with a more accessible sound. It's music that obviously took an effort to produce, and therefore rewards the listener. In other words, just what I look for in good music ;) When Thug's album ("Isolated Rhythm Chock") becomes available from the mail-order places (S://kimo etc) I highly recommend it.
