heh heh. Today while driving home from work i got stuck at a traffic light behind a bus AND a street sweeper. Go figure. Anyway I was listening to some pretty lame techno at the time [tar and feather me offlist please :P] but my windows were down and i could clearly hear the noises outside. As the light turned green the bus started making it's signature hydraulic squeals, grunts, and hisses, and the street sweeper continued it's static-y fuzzy grainy white noisey roar. And for about 30 weird-ass seconds all the sounds mixed together over the music in my car, resulting in - well i'm not sure what to compare it to but i'm sure it could be expressed by at least 5 Ae units [to quote an earlier and brilliant post >;) ]. And i SWEAR i'm telling the truth. It was quite odd. Heh. Just thought i'd share it with anyone who felt like reading some mush. Well, I thought it was funny. :P

I guess that's why some folks call it "ambient." :-) I had a similar experience the other night. A car stopped at the light next to me had its stereo cranked up to self-destructive levels. The windows were up, so most of what I heard was rhythmic buzzing and crackling from the trunk-mounted speakers. For all I know the driver was listening to the latest Spice Girls monstrosity (or whatever), but as the distorted bass line excited various resonances in the deteriorating speakers and within the car's trunk, the noises emitted sounded a lot like Cristian Vogel's latest... (And I LOVE CV's latest! "Busca Invisibles"). Funny how the broken stereo got rhythms out of that music that were never there in the first place. Speaking of "found sounds," but does anyone else find Squarepusher's latest attempts to combine D'n'B and Gamelon sounds a bit like a roomful of old electromechanical pinball machines? (This isn't intended as a put-down, BTW.) -Ed

Live in the dorms and have like a 'wicked stoopid' neighbor down with Slim Shady or whatever that is, and me trying to listen my good old Coldcut albums. I don't think I've listened to an album straight here. And screw the Oval and Pole, just gets all drowned out, becomes less interesting the more you add to it.

Is that on the new EP? Are soundbites at warp-net? Did you get a white label or something? What's with this Autechre EP? It's got 11 tracks on it! That's an album to me. I read in Jockey Slut about Death in Vegas, so I think Irene was wondering what they are up to, check out that ish. Also read that Plaid are releasing some kind of mental multimedia thing real soon but haven't seen any stuff on Warp about it. Supposedly it's like millenium related stuff. Then lastly, ole Aphex, guess he's taking a three month break from all the Windowlicker commotion (was there really that much?). Plus the interesting comments of Chris Cunningham, on a fax to warp or something. All in this month's Jockey Slut. Tis only $6.75 to us chappies in the US, subscriptions available too, operators standing by. Rusty

Are you talking about CD/LP5? Actually, there's a hidden *12th* track too - I thought it goes as a full release, this one?

Yes, right : I was asking, but sadly haven't seen a Slockey Jut hereabouts since September (all imported magazines have shot up in price and most local newsagents don't bother importing them due to low sales). So if you'd care to paraphrase, I'd appreciate it. I should add to the Interesting Driving Moment thread that here we have major road rage brought about by mini-bus drivers who mostly haven't got drivers licenses and treat the road as their playground. Generally these Toyota buses are hardly roadworthy and ALWAYS have *booming* crap emanating from their open windows so that the 2000 people inside can breathe. Stopping at a red light next to one of these always cross-pollinates the gentle Bionaut or whatever I've got running - but a friend who slams Dr Octagon in his clapped out car always gets a grin and a thumbs up from taxi drivers :-) Hey, Iain - don't you miss South Africa ?!
