some albums, relatively recent... underworld: darren emerson mix (promo cd, jbo) more interesting than the new album, this is darren emerson playing some of the best underworld tunes. he starts off good with some fine mixing but loses interest a bit in the end where he just puts on the next tune after the former ended. music include two lemon interupt tunes, underworlds mixes of björk, shakespears sister and sven väth. the best tune from "beaucoup fish", "kittens", as well as the so-so "king of snake", end the mix. quite fun if you can find it. darchives: scenario (cd, primal) dark swedish drum'n'bass, anyone? five long tracks in the vein of source direct, no u-turn and grooverider. what makes it fun are the bits of ambientish melodies that can be heard in between the tracks. many drum'n'bass albums tend to repeat themselves and contain lots of filler tracks, but "scenario" isn't one of them. well produced and interesting, all 44 minutes of it. plexiq: bambi dragon don't spit no fire (cd, clearspot) this album is produced by thomas fehlman and mastered by stefan betke, which should warrant it interesting for the idm list... altough it's a pop record. or rather, these are pop songs with a musical score from a multitude of different genres. the best track, "speculation", sounds like morcheeba but much more more intense, and is followed by an instrumental techno track which sounds like tupilaq on speed. which in turn is followed by the meditative epic "amigo". and so on. you won't be bored listening to this record. also recommended: gus gus: this is normal (cd, 4ad) - a perfect pop album. boom boom satellites: out loud (cd, r&s) - big beat grown up. and so much more. hs ______________________________________________________ i go BA-BA-BA-BA-BA-BA every time you walk in the room
