from the sludge report: It's beginning. Mentalrocker Sinead O'Connor has recorded what is being billed as the first Kosovo refugee anthem. The song, a cover of Bob Marley's THEM BELLY FULL [BUT WE HUNGRY] could be released later this month to raise vital funds. The "groundbreaking" new single, recorded over the Internet, teams O'Connor with Thomas Dolby and Coldcut. "The song could quickly become part of a bigger project," said event spokesman James Topman. "There are thoughts of a compilation album in an effort to raise as much cash as quickly as possible." * * * Pop idol George Michael is going for the first number one hit of the new millennium with his next single Y2K. To avoid any disruption at the cash register, DREAMWORKS founder David Geffen and Michael will release the single in December, 1999, designed for heavy rotation and major activation in bomb shelters and discotheques throughout the world... _______________________________________________________________ Get Free Email and Do More On The Web. I really object to the judgement stated in the subject heading here. Why ridicule and dismiss somebody who's going to put money where it will undoubtedly be needed. I have always found O'Connor to be passionate and sincere, even when she's been wrongheaded. She's made some wonderful music to boot. It is predictable that she's political and cause oriented. What's wrong with that. You'd have to criticize a lot of artists if you take the "sucking off others misery" stance, starting with, maybe Woody Guthrie. Why single out one tough, vocal, political woman? I don't want to get flamed, but in defence of O'Connor I will say "fuck off!" Charlie James PS: Unless you are THE Hulk Hogan, quit sucking off somebody elses name!
