How does anyone watch AMP? I made the effort several times in the past for 2:00 am Sunday (right?) and instead got MTVs retarded Spring Break Mission or a Road Rules marathon or some crap like that. When I have caught it, it's been decent, but there are only so many nights that I will go through the trouble only to have Carson Daley cracking jokes for 12 and 13 year olds. <rant id="MTVsucks"> MTV really sucks these days, maybe because I've grown up (I'm 23) but really, who wants to watch Karaoke? What about "video cliche"? What type of programming is that? I guess their target market is early teenage (13 or so) though, so maybe I'm just an OG. It's too bad MTV is watering down kids brains though... </rant> David

The real reason that MTV completely bites isn't that they hardly play music, and when they do, it sucks. It's that MTV is awaer of and recognizes talent, so you'll hear, say, 12 seconds of a Scanner song with some trippy little computer animations and an MTV logo during commercials. My younger sister (she's 17) watches MTV just about every day, so I've gotten intimately familiar with every popular Korn and Limp Bizkit song being played right now, since I hear them every day when I wake up, and when I come home from classes. Every few weeks I'll sit down and watch it with her, just to see if MTV is doing anything interesting. The week before last, I saw a brief MTV station ID clip with a Boards of Canada song playing. The imagery was just these dots moving around a background, it looked like a Flash animation on some web page. It was actually pretty cool; stylish visual stuff going on, BoC playing. I could like MTV if it were like that all the time. Then it stopped and they started playing a No Doubt song where the singer of No Doubt Goes Raving(tm). If MTV were just stupid, it would be one thing. Knowingly peddling dumb music is just annoying. Oh well, who cares about MTV. I wish I had some new music purchases to review from my trip to Berkeley yesterday, but I don't. I went into the city and stopped by Ameoba briefly. I got Gorgoroth's _Antichrist_ cd, but it's not very topical to the list, and it was a disappointing cd anyway. Get over it. MTV is a business, and their audience (13-20 year olds primarily, I imagine) do not want "flash animations" and BoC. They want Limp Bizkits, Korn, and all that other horse shit. If you owned the station, you'd do the same. - wells oliver / s0ewoliv@titan.vcu.edu

It's the same with all MTVish radio stations. A few weeks ago I was listening to WBCN in Boston and while the DJ was intoducing the next crappy track he was going to play, Borads of Canada was playing in the background.

i just can't help thinking that if aphex twin and boreds of canada were every other song on mtv/commercial radio that there would be a lot more sammy hagar fans than there are now. the tom green show is pretty funny. eric

It's even worse over here (UK). During the day it's non-stop pop for the kids, whilst during the evening it seems to turn into the R&B channel. All the decent programmes they used to have (Alternative Nation and Chillout) have long since been shortened, watered down or removed entirely. -- /\/)ark headspin - http://www.sonance.demon.co.uk/
