Right up my alley - I find myself veering more and more into this vaguely termed "acid jazz" territory with trip-hop thrown in (sorry IDM, don't kick me off the list just yet!) "endemic distortion" did a great job listing lots of what would come to my mind too - a good recent comp to check out is The Eclectic Sound of Vienna. I've got Vol 2 of - I think - a 3-vol. series on SPRAY. The Studio !K7 range of compilations is very extensive - try the Freestyle Files (loads to choose from) and also "Offering" and "Offering 2". Still with the compilations, there is the well known Dope on Plastic range (gosh, about 6 of them out by now?) equally Give 'em Enough Dope (the series) covers this genre as does the Future Sound of Jazz. The Waldeck album mentioned in another post is not to my personal liking, but you might get some joy from Sofa Surfers' "Transit" (97 on Klein records, Vienna). Michael Wells' Signs of Chaos "Departure" has an excellent loungy feel, without being too cheezy. Also the Serenity Dub and Submerged series on Incoming! are worth looking out for. And I can't say the name Ian O'Brien often enough :-) Have fun! I *

I'd have to echo the postings about Cup of Tea label - most of the artists on it are very solid. But if you run across an album entitled _Hijacked_ by a group called Marden HIll, snatch it up. Absolutely fantabulous! Yeah, there are vocals, but they aren't overtly annoying, and the whole album just grooves along. And the first song on it is remixed by Ashley Beedle ... can't go wrong with pedigree like that. In other related news, it looks like the buyout of Blockbuster Music by Wherehouse Music is already paying dividends. While dropping in today to pick up _Windowlicker_ (finally) I stumbled across their used CD bins. United Future Organization, Septic Cuts, One and Two AD (with the classic Irresistable Force take on August Leaves), Wagon Christ, Further Self Evident Truths (as well as a whole lotta other Rising High/Moonshine records) all for 2 bucks a pop! Not exactly the rarest of recordings, but still not bad pickings for South Louisiana. I wonder if the selection is this good throughout the US ... Find the Viennatones comp (they were involved). I think Shantel's "Higher Than The Funk" bears some similarity. I'd also recommend Bristol's "Cup of Tea" label in general....Spaceways, Monk & Canatella, maybe Mr. Scruff, Purple Penguin - just find the first CoT compilation and take it from there (it has a US release on an Island subsidiary, I think). Pork is also another label to investigate....Fila Brazilla, Baby Mammoth, The Solid Doctor, etc. Ninja Tune stuff sometimes wanders (well, one foot is usually in the general vicinity) into this territory. Try Up, Bustle & Out's "One Colour...". The DJ Food releases are a bit more hippity hoppity, but they smoke. DJ Cam in that bag also. Of course, the G-Stoned K&D ep is a must. They also have a Drum and Bass comp (mixed) called "Conversions". My mind is a blank whenever this kind of thing gets asked; I'll think of a million things after I hit the "send" icon. jeff Sebastian Herrfurth wrote:
