I found a little realaudio clip of "I.O." from the Arovane EP on www.urbansounds.com and it was really nice. So.. my question is: Is all of their material similar to that? Mellow, crunchy beats with nice melodies.. sorta like Bochum Welt meets Funkstorung. And what other groups sound like that now?

yes, it all sounds vaguely like that. i recommend getting the "torn/andar/parf/i.o." 12" first - it's the best, concentrating on deep, shifting tones and melodies. the newest one "icol diston" ain't as brilliant - it's great, just moving into the light and a little closer to post _tri repetae_ clackity-clack-clack comlexity. but it's all good.

actually, i recommend the chris de luca _unknown_ 12" on chocolate industries - very nice, very melodic, not nearly as annoying as funkstorung. sehr gut. in other news...i'm listening to the new ilpo vaisanen _20 to 2000_ - can someone start putting out solo records by this guy? this is great - reminiscent of the new panasonic direction, but noisier, edgier. nice track that sounds like pole on crack. catch wreck! just in case you didn't know: Ilpo Vaisanen is 1/2 of pan sonic. Mika Vainio is the other half. There is a third idividual involved in Pan sonic that could almost be likened to the 5th beatle. Forget his name but he makes some of their instruments. There are others who are more knowledgeable on this subject. try: http://www.sci.fi/~phinnweb -Daniel Head Monkey Mad Monkey Records

Don't forget their newest 7" on City Center Offices! May be hard to get, but it's fantastique ! Bye Sebastian -- Sebastian Herrfurth (seher@cs.tu-berlin.de) pages for Bernd Friedmann / Riz Maslen / Daniel Meier / DJ Krush / ... at http://user.cs.tu-berlin.de/~seher/music.html
