i drove up to san fransisco this weekend to see some friends.. while i was up there, i hit a few clubs.. tuesday night i went to static at the cat club: kid clayton played live, and some of the cytrax kids djd.. was all very good. venue was pretty cool too.. little bar in downtown. kid clayton was way way dubby and chain reaction-like. oddly enough, the next day i picked up "the model and the mimick" (i think thats whats its called?) 12" -- SUPER good dubby minimal techno stuff.. heroin house/dub? :) thursday night went to the insight v.01 thing at 111 minna: 111 minna is a nice little art gallery.. in fact, there was a showing of some groovy sculptures that were all somehow based on skulls (...place them on my wall...). all three performances were pretty damn cool.. but i only know that lexaunculpt and lilienthanl were on the bill -- who was the very first band? anyway.. thanks to all for putting on the above events.. they were good fun! and sf is amazing! and open mind is a neat store! and random hippie girls on haight street are good! chris np: shadow huntaz on kuci (as in the dj on now is playing a song, not that they played live at the station :) i am not daniel. i am not peach. i am not sterile. music, four lunchpails: wednesdays 7-8pm kuci 88.9fm www.kuci.org "chicks dig laptops"

actually, this is josh kit clayton, who, by me also, can do no wrong. . his releases on Cytrax and others never fail to impress, and he got some publicity in the latest issue of Urb, along with *67, and Chocolate Industries. check it. for all those who haven't checked into Cytrax, and like the minimal / abstract techno, you need to. support domestic music. peace- ./ chris. p.o. box 771688 coral springs, fl 33077-1688

that would be if.then.else, also on the emanated label. all three had fantastic sets, and each act complemented the other. lex has some solid new material, and i was glad to catch lilienthal before he moves to NYC. if you are interested in melodic minimalism with a twist, pick up the emanated comp. well worth it and then some. this kind of post ambient sound is just the fix i've been looking for lately, and it's quite relaxing. matter of fact the show was in the same vein, not too noisy, at a cozy gallery, attractive friendly people to chat w/, bring on the love! agent mully

I agree - Mimic and the Model #1 is very good. I picked it up a couple weeks ago and I'm impressed with it. Reminds me of slightly more digital-sounding Pole, but a friend said "Black Dog". Whatever it reminds you of, it's worth a listen. The poster that comes with it is interesting, too - from what I've been able to gather (thanks Lance) is that the artwork and the music are supposed to be very closely related. Very nice release in all. Bill / dj marathon

If you like the mimic and the model #1 then you should check out kit clayton's new release on the phthalo label under the guise 4mod3. The cdep is called "A Translation of Simplicity. It's a little less dubby but still firmly rooted in the melodic electronica style. And lots of clayton related material coming. Here are the releases & projected release dates: . cytrax8: dj jasper, kit clayton & dj hyperactive: detonation ep, out this week . delay 02: delay 02 dj jasper & kit clayton w/ oliver ho rmx, april 99 . parallel 005: kit clayton, "the angular adventures of kit in the land of sound & shape", march/april 99 . drop beat: kit clayton, "repetition and nonsense" lp, april 99 . cytrax 9: sutekh, "of sarcasm and exhaust" april 99 . cytrax 10: dj jasper, "the escape" may 99 . the mimic and the model #2: may/june 99 . delay 03: dj hyperactive reworked by kit clayton, may 99 . cytrax 11: kit clayton, june 99 -->-Lance--- mclance@nacs.net lance@inaudible.com p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states

here is where i am going to get into trouble im sure :) im really NOT impressed with the phthalo label.. OR any other cdr label that charges WAY too much for cdr's.. especially when they come with little artwork. i REALLY enjoy dimitri's music -- his label releases (that i have heard) and his phthalocyanine material. in fact, for a LONG time it seemed to me that i was alone in liking the pthalocyanine material -- id play it for folks, and really had a bicth of a time turning them on to the releases/other material i had at the time. i really do think the phthalocyanine stuff is amazing -- quite unique, and quite noisey -- and damn it, i love the noise aspect -- especially of navy warship. i am also one to never really expect promos, and do not mind buying the music i enjoy (though during this tax season it gets hard.. :) (and, the occurances of me getting promos with my radio show are few and far between) that being said -- i think that the concept of charging 12-17$USD for a cdr thats made in the states is ABSURD. especially when there is no artwork. yes, its all about the music -- but that to me is just getting to the level of silliness. and i have found that the cdrs that i have paid so much for -- well, they never quite hit me the same -- mostly because i feel ripped off. so, yeah. i love the music, but fuck paying so much for a cdr. but hey, if it works, and you can get folks paying 17$ for a cdr that has no artwork because its limited (and my oh my how idm list folks love that shit) -- then you may just be doing something right? who knows, but its not for me. cheers, chris.

Actually, no trouble in my eyes. I get my phthalo cdrs for less than others do because i ocassionally do work for them, so i'm not affected by the high price of the releases. But i do agree that 12-17$USD for cdrs is quite high. When i once asked Dimitri about the high cost of his cdrs he said it's because, unlike other cdr labels, he signs more established artists for his label. I dont know if i agree with that line of reasoning but i will say that the music on most of the phthalo label releases is very good, and, if i had to pay full price to get them, i would still buy more than half of their current catalog. -->-Lance--- mclance@nacs.net lance@inaudible.com p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states

its not related, the permutation diode is going to be releasing a cdr compilation of (non) idm music in an obscure minimal analog sheepy kind of way at the end of the month,, selling for 9-10 us dollars and its even going to come with one to two fancy inserts and a cloth case, cant beat that:) the permutation diode presents: sehcl_ "soundtrack of the exterior grafted to umbrageous dawn, fishery door doth open" -red tutl "we underestimate this little hole, it seems to me, we call it the arsehole and affect to despise it. But is it not rather the true portal of our being and the celebrated mouth no more than the kitchen-door" -molloy
