This Laswell bashing is shite! Eno/Bryne's "My Life in The Bush With Ghosts," Eno's "On Land," and works by Herbie Hancock, Material, Afrika Bambatta, Golden Palaminos, Praxis, Last Exit, Pain Killer, Sonny Sharrock, Pharaoh Sanders, Last Poets, Hakim Bey, W. S. Burroughs, et. al are all suspect 'cause Bill Laswell was instrumental in their production. :-( The insanity that I read on this list is astounding. A pre-requisite to subscription should be enrollment in logic courses (and proof of passing grades). Amazing.

A grand point I think it is ridiculous that some people make generalizations abought a musician because they produce so much work. Sure Laswell has had some projects that are questionable in quality - but he has also done some amazing things such as those listed below. At 10:40 AM 3/18/99 -0600, you wrote:

It's insane that someone might not like Laswell or any of the groups you listed above, yet still enjoy that rare beast known as "IDM"? Perhaps you should look at that statement again. Personally I have very little opinion on the matter, not knowing much of Laswell's music. Perhaps that supports my point? I have what I'd consider a wide, healthy knowledge and appreciation for e-music in many, many forms, but Laswell doesn't enter my domain much. Is that saying something? My point is that you can dislike as much Bill Laswell as you want but to make wild generalizations about how his stuff is crap is way off base. If you've heard it and don't like it, great. If you haven't heard it... FYI, Herbie Hancock's "Rockit" = Bill Laswell/Material.
