In Search of Dub ... Look for the 100th Anniversary of the Birth of Marcus Garvey Edition CD of Burning Spear's seminal "Marcus Garvey." Which I believe is out on Mango(?). It contains the original album and "Garvey's Ghost" which is Marcus Garvey in Dub. The recordings of Culture, beginning with Two Sevens Clash, mix dub effects with perhaps the sweetest, most politically conscious vocal reggae. Culture takes the close harmonies of the early Wailers to an entirely new headspace. Joseph Hill is still touring as Culture and can blow the doors off nearly any live act in any genre to this day. Please also try and seek out the very earliest Jamaican dub records, which have been re-issued on vinyl. I heard absolutely marvelous records at Global Chillage in Amsterdam, but I didn't write down the names of the labels, and like much of Amsterdam, I'm a little fuzzy on the fine details ;-) kent williams -- kent@avalon.net ICQ:33001909
