actually i have Glob, Elastic Speakers, Pattern Tub, Skampler, MASK 1 and Alt. Freq. 2&3, so i've heard quite a few of them. i like "Fyonk" and "Refane" the best out of everything i've heard that he's done. just not into his stuff much. Pattern Tub is pretty nice though.

you really need to get a hold of the EP on skam (or a dub of it). 'Siamese Telebox' is sooo sweeeet. My favorite freeform track, fav Skam track (well up there with the Hellinterface/Abrhams thing), maybe even one of my fav IDM tracks ever. <Why wasn't it on the skampler?!?!!!> And for the record, I don't see why so many people are playa hatin' on Freeform anyway, while his stuff (aside from 'siamese telebox') isn't particularly outstanding, it's on par with (or better than) most of the stuff that's hip with the IDM crowd nowadays anyway. I'd much rather listen to 'glob' than say.. Marco Passarani. At least Simon's trying to do something a bit different, not just a rehash of the SOIDMS (Same ol idm shit) just my 2sense,, mlt.

I urge everyone, Freeform fans and haters alike, to check out his new Freeform cd on the Sprawl label called "Me Shape." This new one is a compilation of sorts culling twelve tracks recorded between 95 and 97 for live Freeform performances. The every track on this album is a nice mix of complex rhythms (ala Elastic Speakers, Prowl, Palavalamp and Glob) and sublime sample-laiden melodies (ala Heterarchy and Pattern Tub). So fans of the new and old Freeform style should enjoy this one. Highly recommended! -->-Lance--- mclance@nacs.net lance@inaudible.com p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states

in my reply to CG, i had mentioned that i would be really interested in getting the Free EP. for one because it was a Skam, and for another because the insert was a picture of Sailor Mercury! that's the thing.. that's why it's being slagged, because it's not rehashing the same ol shite. it's not abstract noise collage shit, it doesn't fit in with the techno lovers; perhaps slagged the same reason the new style of squarepusher is being slagged. leaving comfortable boundaries. yes even abstract noise collage is comfortable boundaries to many. maybe one day freeform will be sought after once people start copying his unique style.. heheh. == _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!? So, if I dislike freeform, it's all about politics and musical conservatism? I don't think so. I just don't enjoy what he does that much. Nor do I enjoy SP's new direction, but once again, it's a matter of taste, not politics and "comfort zones." I'm sure you must be one of the most revolutionary music listeners out there, but don't be making blanket statements about ulterior motives at people who don't have any. I appreciate that which complements my imagination, and freeform doesn't. Simple as that. Tom

altho i've noticed greg is one of few people i usually agree with, i'm going to have to say that here he is wrong. none of the freeform albums sound like autechre. freeform is in his own world with music.. thank god and buddha statues that someone is. you'll find 156x more musicians making more autechre-drenched music in structure and sound use but without the funk and creativity. but maybe it sounds sort of nice. simon probably picked up some things from autechre, but he has another style. ===== __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
